Little Pineapples
Little pineapple blocks have been showing up lately. Two pineapple blocks were part of Moda Blockheads 2.
The Original Pineapple Block
An appliqué block, designed by Jan Patek, shown in the bottom right of this photo.
The Pieced Pineapple Block
Then, Coriander Quilts designed a second pineapple block for those who wanted a pieced block rather than appliqué. I had to make some, not for my Moda blockheads, but just because they were so cute!
Finishing at 6 inches, these little blocks go together quickly. I had planned to make six of them, sew them into a row, quilt them and hang them above my kitchen sink. While I was shopping one day, I came across a sign that would fit above the sink and my plans changed. Only two little pineapples were made.
Once finished, I did some simple quilting on the blocks and added binding.
My view from my chair in the living is looking into the kitchen, so this little ensemble is what I now see. It’s a good reminder for me to look at the blessings of things in life (I hate to admit I’m a glass half empty type of person).
I left the full shot of me taking the photo. Thought you’d enjoy seeing the look of serious concentration on my face. Ha!
It is a blessing being married to a guy who stands 6’6″. tall. He was able to hang this without a step stool. So how did we hang the little blocks? Well, we considered just using straight pins. We didn’t really want to fuss with a short little dowel or cut a piece of wood. The blocks are so light we didn’t feel that was needed. So we got a little creative.
Can you see that?
We just cut a piece of sturdy cardboard and tacked it into the wall. I added little corners to the backs of my blocks, a little more loose than I normally would, so they puff out a bit to make it easier to hook them over the edge of the cardboard.
It’s not pretty, but no one sees it, and the blocks can be changed out now and then if I wish.
I’m already thinking on cute little blocks for fall and Christmas!
Linking up today with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts.
Oh! Stop back on Wednesday and take a peek at my Baggie Quilt. See you then!

How absolutely adorable! The idea of changing them out with the seasons is such a good one. I have been adding these little corner triangles to every quilt I’ve made for the last year or so. Not only as hangers for smaller quilts but also as a quilt label on a lower corner of large or bed quilts. Love the photo as well…..

Love the pineapple blocks, but I love how creative you guys got at hanging them. Love the new arrangement:) I tried a command hook yesterday to hang my newest IB challenge quilt-by nightfall it was on the floor-it wasn’t that heavy:(

How nice! I’ve heard that pineapples are a symbol of welcome and that is certainly welcoming. I’m 5’2″ and the father of my children is 6’7″. We could always tell who put something away. For example, in the kitchen, if it was above countertop level, he put it away. Conversely, if it was below countertop level, I had stowed the item. There was no arguing concerning who had put an item in a given place. So, I can relate. Hope to see more greatness!

Oh, yes, we have funny stories about who put what where too 😊

Hi Wendy! You surprise me to no end saying you’re a glass half empty type of person. You don’t strike that way at all – maybe it’s time to reassess yourself and stop saying that! Anyhoo – I love, love, LOVE your sign and adorable pineapples. And most of all the picture of you taking the picture – so cute!! Very clever way to hang those pineapples, and great idea to switch them up over the months. That size of wall hanging will be easy and quick to make news ones! Happy Monday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

Those pineapples look fantastic there – and so appropriate for the kitchen as a symbol of hospitality. I look forward to seeing you change these with the season 🙂

Wendy, Your Coriander Quilts pineapple block inspired me and I made one today but guess what? I sewed the top on upside down! Tomorrow is another day and I’ll fix it 😆
Ingenious hanging idea! 🍍🍍

Oh bummer! Can’t wait to see it though!

Genius! I will confess here that I have done, on many occasions, hung little quilts to the wall with a straight pin, the fine ones. You pull them out and you don’t even see the tiny hole. I LOVE your wee blocks, and yes! on the changing them out with the seasons!

I love the way this looks! So cute and such a fun idea. Those tiny pineapples are adorable!

Just found you by accident and am glad I did. Will be following you now. Love the little pineapple block and will definitely have to make a couple. I’ve used straight pins for years to hang things.
