Luminous Layers
I’ve made some progress on my Luminous Layers quilt, catching up after being gone most of last week. Luminous Layers is the latest quilt along with MMMQuilts, and it is a very fun design. This is a free quilt along, and Sandra is showing us the steps as we go along. Here is the introductory post if you are interested in seeing the design – and sewing along with us.
Here are my fabrics I’m using, in case you missed them, or don’t remember what I decided to go with.
They are all cut and ready to roll in that photo. I couldn’t wait to get going on sewing the HSTs together. I got far enough along to get this set up on the design wall.
Well, that was enough to get me going on the rest, and before I knew it, all the units were up on the design wall!
I’m ready to start sewing the units together. I’m making the baby size quilt, and I’m pretty sure I need to make the larger size at some point. I’d start tomorrow, except I have another project I need to start because I’ve been putting it off, and this one was requested by hubs, so I need to get it done.
You can see that my background for the tiny stars is different than the print. The designs on the print are pretty large, and I felt they would get lost in the stars, so I went with a black and white print instead, which picks up the black/white in the print. I think it works pretty well.
Luminous Layers is going to be another favorite from all of my quilt alongs with Sandra!

Your quilt is looking great! Once you get going, it’s hard to stop, isn’t it? You had productive time in your sewing room.

It’s really pretty. I love your fabrics.

Stars within stars. What a clever idea. The smallest stars must have been tricky to construct

Hope you enjoyed your trip and that Wilbs is not too annoyed with you for leaving. 😉 I just love the colors you’re using in Luminous Layers, and that’s a great idea to use the smaller print as background for the tiny stars. Now you’ve got me intrigued about your requested project from your hubby. 😀

The tiny black print is a great solution. Let us see it finished with binding and happy sewing.

You better get to his project before he comes in the sewing room and tries to do it himself! Ha!

I was so excited to see your post this morning, Wendy! I’ve been working on my Luminous Layers, too, and I’ve been craving views of other people’s versions. Love the fun colors you’re using, especially the turquoise and orange Grunge. Fun to see how the center section is coming together – that’s what I am up to right now. The big star point sections go together quickly – I used them as leader/enders for the small stars. It won’t be long until we have a quilt top!

Wow, all the detail of a mini quilt (those tiny stars) surrounded by blocks for making a standard size wall hanging/quilt. The colors work well, too!

Ooooh I like your choices, very cute!

I like how this project is coming together and love your choice of the small scale black and white print to coordinate with the fun zebra print in the large star.

Oh, this is looking great. I love the switch you made…hope to cut my switch today and get sewing. I really like the way it looks and that outside fabric is fabulous. I hope your time away was fun and relaxing. Here’s to a fun week of sewing!

Looks like you had a fun sewing session. Love it when things just go together “before you know it”! Looking good!

Your fabric choices are so bright and cheerful and your blocks look so nice. Starting the center stars for my quilt this afternoon.

I love how you took care with the orientation of the background print for the largest star points. It looks fantastic and like it was a lot of fun to put together. 🙂

Cute star in a star in a star in a star!!! Love your animal print, Wendy!!! Do you have a baby in mind?

I think what I love most about your quilt is that it’s pushing you to make the larger one! But I also love your colour palette, and that you used a smaller print that tones in perfectly with the large background one (which is adorable). So happy you’re quilting along again!

Looking forward to seeing this one come together, Wendy!
