Magnolia, Finally

Magnolia, finally. I finally have my Magnolia Mystery quilt finished. This mystery quilt along, designed and hosted by Meadow Mist Designs, happened in 2017, so this little gem has been patiently waiting in my UFO stack. I recently brought it to Connie to work her longarm magic, and she knocked it out of the park! Connie and I have been friends for years, and I thoroughly enjoy giving her a quilt and just asking her to have fun.

I made the lap version of the quilt, and it measures 60″ x 67″. It’s just about large enough to cover BigJ, but not quite!

I completed the quilt top in January of 2018, as I mentioned in this post. I had also forgotten that this was my first mystery quilt along. I do remember that it was a fun one, with an easy pace.

Here is the quilting in each block. I like the floral design with the arches, don’t you?

In the negative space, Connie used this cool Grecian key design. I don’t have the name of the patterns she used, but if you want to know, I can get them for you.

Another photo so you can see the two designs together.

The quilting shows up nicely on the neutral fabric used for the quilt back.

A close up of the block so you can see the fabrics in the quilt. I have the fabric details written down somewhere but, of course, I can’t locate them. I do know the background fabric is a Jen Kingwell print. The solid green is Kona but not sure of the color name (I’ll have to check my card), but I can’t recall any details on the green and blue prints.

I enjoyed choosing the fabrics, because Nancy of Grace and Peace Quilting helped me with it while she was working at the quilt shop. We were scrambling to get the fabrics chosen, because a busload of quilters was due to arrive. Things get a little crazy in a quilt shop when that happens, so I hustled and got done before all the fabric disappeared. Haha!

So Magnolia, finally. It took me forever to get it done, but it was worth the wait.

Happy Monday! I’m linking up today with

Wowza! Connie knocked it out of the ballpark with this quilt. I haven’t seen quilting like this, and it looks great with the modern simplicity of the quilt design. Enjoy your lovely quilt!

Bee-you-tea-full!!! I definitely recognized the fabrics!!! And the design, as I was following along with the mystery. The quilting! It’s breathtaking!!!

Magnolia was worth the wait, Wendy! I love the colors you picked – that Kona green (I’m sure it has a much more creative name than that!) is so fun and fresh. The background fabric is really neat – loved seeing it close up. Your friend did an amazing job with the quilting – she is the right friend to have, lol! Congratulations on your finish!

So that’s what kept you quiet all weekend, was this your ‘free’ weekend? I have lost track of time lately, LOL Absolutely gorgeous quilt, you and Connie put your best foot forward for a stunner!

Congratulations on the finish; a finish is worth celebrating whenever it happens! I still have the Modern Plus Sampler from Cheryl and Paige’s book QAL to finish up from a few years ago, too. The quilting is lovely and I love the bright colors you selected to shine against the background in your version of Magnolia.

I love this quilt Wendy! It doesn’t matter how long it takes, a finish is a finish! Did I ever tell you I have a “12 Year” quilt? LOL The quilting is spectacular! Connie does fabulous work. I always love to see finishes and see how the quilter brings a quilt to life. Great job to the both of you!

Hi Wendy! Beautiful finish and well worth the wait. That large areas of background fabrics would have intimidated me terribly for quilting. Connie did a great job willing those spaces and it sure does look nice on the back, too. It must feel great to have this one off the books. ~smile~ Roseanne

Congratulations Wendy! A beautiful quilt. I love the colors and the quilting is fantastic. The back view of the quilt is amazing. Cheryl does have nice sew/quilt alongs. I’ve done three. This year I peeked at the pattern to determine if I wanted to do another quilt. It’s a yes!

What a stunner! The quilting is just top notch, and highlights your pretty fabrics perfectly. Such a fresh, modern piece. This one marinated in the UFO pile for exactly the right time. Or maybe it pickled there? That green look a bit like Kona pickle 🙂

What a lovely quilt! The colours are really happy and eye catching, and your choice of quilter was perfect. I’m here studying her work; it’s fabulous. Enjoy that wonderful, finished, quilt.

So pretty, and I absolutely love your fabric choices!!!! I love Cheryl’s designs. I sat this one out and wish I hadn’t–the design looks good in so many colorways! You are right that the quilting is fabulous!!! Love the combination of the different motifs. Such a fun, pretty, fresh finish, congrats!

Oh WOW This is one stunning quilt! The fabrics just glow but the quilting absolutely beams! I hope to do Cheryl’s Moreland Mystery this year. I’ve done two of hers, both great.
