Making Blocks
I’ve been having fun making blocks for the Block Study Collective with Tara Faughnan this fall. My first batch of blocks from October are still a work in progress and brewing on my design wall while I decide whether to sew them together into one quilt, or leave them as separate block studies.
They are happy colors, so I’m just enjoying them hanging out with me as I sew. While I’m pondering that, I’m making blocks of a different design with these fabrics.
A whole new fabric pull, and I’m loving these colors. This month we are making log cabin blocks using a new technique for paper piecing that Tara demonstrated. It has been a game changer for me. No paper ripping when the block is sewn?? I’m in! I started with two . . .
These measure 3-1/2″ by 6-1/2″. Then I made a few more . . .
And a few more . . . I can’t quit making these . . .
I made two more, and now I’m taking a break while I work on some Christmas projects. I’ll show you more on this in a future post. Tara has given us a variety of pattern sizes and shapes, so I think I want to try some of those too. I don’t think I’ll get those done before month’s end, but we’ll see.
So that’s pretty much all I’ve been doing, making blocks and messing around with some holiday sewing. How about you? What are you working on?

I used to have a lot of solid color fabrics but do not have many over the years – which fabric line is that from? Mine were always Kona Cotton which has every color available it seems.

Love your fabric pull for those log cabin blocks and I love the October blocks as well. Very cool!

I like the elongated log cabin design. I notice your increased use of solids – any particular reason for this or just a happenstance?

Wendy – the log cabins are just stunning. Love the colors!
I am working on making holiday placemats out of my Christmas fabrics. Not sure where I will donate them but maybe to a senior home of some sort. I need to make a few more and then make some phone calls. It is nice to just use the fabric and they are so festive.

Citronickle in log cabins – whee!!! All these blocks are so gorgeous. I wouldn’t be able to stop either. Is it the freezer paper technique for paper piecing? I can’t wait to see your Christmas sewing – I am sure it will be equally as gorgeous.

Great color choices and such fun blocks.

Both are gorgeous color palettes. I’m intrigued by this paper piecing method – is it freezer paper or something else?
Helen
I’m pretty sure that particular color scheme belongs to you.

You’re always working on things that look fun and interesting, Wendy! I love the bright quarter square triangles, and also the more muted palette of the log cabin type blocks. You’ve got a great stash of solids to play with!

Oh wow Wendy. Your blocks are spectacular! Love the boldness and brightness of both, but the HSTs are my favourite.
