March Color Challenge Block
I’m happy to share my March Color Challenge block for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen. Jen shares a block each month – this year in two size options – and we have the month to complete the block and link up at month’s end. The blocks are basic and simple, easily finished each month. If you are interested in joining in, you can find all the information here.
In March, the squirrels get very busy in our backyard, finding acorns from last fall, raiding the bird feeders, and scampering all over. The squirrels have been a bit busy in my quilt room too, so I’d better get this block posted before they distract me once more.
Jen’s inspiration for her blocks this year are fruits and veggies. The food for March is the sweet potato. I love, love, love sweet potatoes, and my favorite way to make them is to chop or slice them, toss them with other vegetables and some olive oil and spices, and roast them or grill them. Yum!
This year I’ve chosen to make the 6-inch blocks. The light red-orange in my block is leftover scraps from the fabric I used to make my Solar Flare quilt. I was so glad to find just enough for this block. The dark red orange is another scrap from my stash.
I’ve finished my March Color Challenge block just in time. How can the end of March be just around the corner already?
What about you? Are you sewing along with the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge? If so, is your block done?
Happy sewing, all!
Wendy

I started laughing out loud as soon as I saw the Squirrel. 😀 Great color on the block – I went back and looked at the Solar Flare quilt – beautiful! I’ve finished my blocks and was shocked to realize tomorrow is March 25 – good grief. So now to get a post together.

Hi Wendy! I love sweet potatoes, too. Lately, I’ve taken to baking fries but now that grilling season is almost upon us, that’s even better. I love the fabrics you chose for your pretty block. ~smile~ Roseanne

March has gone by sooo fast. I just finished my RSC blocks for February last night and started on March.
Sweet potatoes – yep, so good roasted!!

These are so much fun. I think I might have that same solar flare fabric. A friend sent me some stuff when I broke my shoulder. I’d rather not have broken my shoulder to get it, but fabric is fabric, and it’s a pretty piece.

Wonderful contrast on the fabrics. Such a pretty block. Don’t know why but the pieces for the 6″ block seem harder to work with than for the 12″. Yes, they are the same shape, but I must be getting old and crotchety! So, I’m sticking with 12″ blocks.

I’m with you on loving roasted sweet potatoes! Yum! That’s a pretty block – love the colors you used. Squirrels are just so much fun that you can’t always avoid them!

I too love sweet potatoes. Your block is perfect with wonderful contrast in your fabric. I think I need a squirrel like your cute felted one. Wherever did you get it?

I think you nailed the sweet potato color scheme in your block. It looks great!

Love your blocks and that little squirrel! I have to say I am not missing the project…we’ll see if I continue to feel that way as the year goes on.

That squirrel is so cute! Great block! I also love sweet potatoes and bought some just a few hours ago when I went to the grocery store. Now I can’t wait to cook them!
