March Monthly Color Challenge
Today is my March Monthly Color Challenge post as I participate in the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen once again. On the first of each month, Jen gives us the block pattern and color for the month. Her inspiration this year is birds. This month’s bird is the Oriole, a favorite bird of mine, and the block color is orange. The above photo shows a visitor to our backyard a few years ago – a young male Orchard Oriole.
Orioles are favorite birds of mine for a few reasons. If you know me at all, you’ll know one of the reasons is their bright, bold orange coloring. The other reason is that they were my dad’s favorite bird. He could mimic their call by whistling. Needless to say, we had several very frustrated orioles in our backyard – haha!
With all the vibrant colors of the birds, you know I had to find some vibrant orange fabrics in my stash. Each of the blocks Jen designs are basic and simple, but really come alive with different fabrics. I always enjoy her monthly linky party and seeing the different colors and fabrics!
You can see my other monthly challenge blocks here and here.
Are you sewing along on the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge and making the March Monthly Color Challenge block? It’s not too late to join in! You can find all the information at Patterns by Jen.

Just love that orange pinwheel

Such a great orange block which pairs perfectly with the orange oriole pics with the orange halves strategically placed in the trees to entice them in (I’m assuming).

Took a walk yesterday and decided just about my favorite thing in life is listening springtime birdsong.

Looks great. I love that photo. I’ve been using orange in my triple Irish chain, but it’s the color I have the least of. I made an all orange quilt once, a long time ago. Built up my orange stash some then, but it’s been depleted.

I miss seeing orioles! When we lived in our RV, we had a big group of males peck at their reflection in the windows one afternoon. Our two cats were just beside themselves, watching the birds flutter against the windows for hours! I’m doing the color challenge, too, but haven’t taken any photos of my blocks. I precut all the backgrounds in scrappy whites, but a lot of the whites have other “stuff” printed on them, so I have mixed feelings about how they look. I’m hoping that after I have 5-6 blocks together they’ll look more harmonious 🙂

Funny but I put out oranges as soon as I see an Oriole and have never got a bird come to check it out. Lucky you.

Same old problems, I signed in once to like post and now again to leave a comment now. I’ve never seen an oriole, yet they do live in our area. I’m having fun with this Challenge.

Hi Wendy!! Those pictures from your backyard are SO cool. I didn’t know that orioles like oranges – what a great way to attract them. I wonder if I could put some out to bring some visitors?! Anyhoo – your block looks great. I also adore how you staged your photo. Nice job. ~smile~ Roseanne

Wonderful pictures of those orioles! I knew your orange would be perfect, since you are an orange gal!
