Mini DrEAMi Project

A mini DrEAMi project, also known as a baby squirrel, happened in my quilt room yesterday. Those little baby squirrels sure are cute, aren’t they?

This little diversion came by way of a stop at a quilt shop on our way back from Door County. If you happen to be in the area of Altoona, Wisconsin, be sure to stop at Stitch Supply Co. What a beautiful shop and retreat center. I enjoyed walking through the store and looking at all the pretty fabrics — Alison Glass, Cotton & Steel, to name a few. Of course I had to bring some home, and how cool is this — if you spend $50 (not difficult, trust me), your fabric is tucked nicely in a project bag.

The bag is well made and good quality, and I love the color. I’ll be honest, this was one of the things I wanted out of my stop there. Anyway, don’t miss this shop, it’s definitely worth it.

Part of that fabric acquisition was the star of my little DrEAMi project. Let me show you my little cutie.

Mini DrEAMi Project - This little Petit Four Basket, a free pattern from Patterns by Annie. Outer fabric is Printing Press in Mustard by Uppercase (Vol. 3); inner lining is from my stash - piecefulthoughts.com

This little basket measures 2.5″H x 5″W x 4″D. The outer fabric is Printing Press in Mustard by Uppercase (Vol. 3), purchased at Stitch Supply Co. The lining fabric is from my stash, but I’m not sure of the designer (maybe Alison Glass?). This little basket is a free pattern from Patterns by Annie and you can find it right here.

I have been working on a bunch of QALs, secret sewing, and other projects that are ongoing, so I enjoy a quick little project in the midst of the longer ones. It’s like a little reward for me.

Mini DrEAMi Project - This cute little Petit Four Basket, a free pattern from Patterns by Annie, can hold so much. Nine spools of thread could easily fit. - piecefulthoughts.com

The little basket is very roomy. It could easily hold 9 Aurifil thread spools. Made with Annie’s Soft & Stable, it stands well on its own.

The best thing about this little project? It’s “leftover layer cake” friendly. All it takes to make this basket is two 10″ x 10″ squares of fabric and a 10″ x 11″ piece of Soft & Stable. It can be made start to finish in an hour or less.

Ok, time to get back to the large projects once again, until another squirrel drops by!

Linking up with Sandra at MMM!Quilts and the July edition of DrEAMi.
