More Fab Five Ruler Fun

Last Thursday, I showed you my Fab Five Ruler pillow. These are the strips left from the Fab Five pillow, and I challenged myself to see if I could use them up with the help of the Fab Five Ruler.

By using a smaller length on the ruler, I cut the tumbler pieces from the wider of the two strip sets. I switched them up a bit, then stitched them together to make a small table mat. The mat measures 12 x 18 inches.

I decided to quilt it with wavy lines, using Aurifil thread in three different colors.

I love it when I have thread that matches my quilts! For these two projects, I used Aurifil 50 wt thread in Variegated Aqua (#4654), Salmon (#2225) and Yellow (#2135). I started with the Salmon thread, then added the other two colors.

I used two other fat eighths from the Reef fabric bundle (Elizabeth Hartman for Robert Kaufman) for the back. The batting is a scrap piece of Quilter’s Dream Select.

For the binding I used strips from the teal fabrics.

The Rest of the Strips are in the Bag

The narrow strips were still left, so once again I used a shorter length on the ruler and cut out the tumblers.

I made this bag without a pattern. I used the tumbler piece to construct a pocket for the front of the bag. Stitching down the center of the tumbler piece gave me two pockets.

The bag itself was made using a half yard chambray denim. Using Soft & Stable between the outer and inner fabrics, I quilted it with straight lines about an inch apart.

This fun stripe from my stash was great for the bag lining, and the last of the teal fabric was used to bind the top of the bag. The handles were each stabilized with a strip of Peltex.

With six fat eighth fabrics, using the Fab Five Ruler, I made three projects!

On Friday, I’ll be posting my next Fat Quarter Shop. This time I’ll show my spin on a classic and vintage block with a new fabric line from Jo Morton. Hope you stop in to take a peek!

Linking up today with Susan at Quilt Fabrication.
