New Mexican Star Block

I woke this morning to realize that I had forgotten to write this post to share my New Mexican Star Block for the Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail sew along with Melva Loves Scraps. Have you read Melva’s post – you can find it at this link

Early on during this sew along, I purchased Marian Russell’s book Land of Enchantment so I could read it in its entirety. I’m currently re-reading it with BigJ and enjoying sharing it with him.

My version of the New Mexican Star Block for the Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail sew along hosted by Melva Loves Scraps - piecefulthoughts.com

As soon as I saw the block and read the excerpt, I knew I had to have green in the block – a nod to the passage, “. . . my green veil streaming out behind me”. Those angled strips in the design made me think of the veil streaming, and it just seemed fitting that this block should represent the moment she met her husband. I had just enough of that green fabric in my stash (I love it when that happens – and I don’t mess up the block!!)

Throughout the book, I find her relationship with Kit Carson a fascinating one, so this passage was rather poignant in that respect. He was so kind and protective of her and her family through the years. If you haven’t read the excerpt, I hope you take a moment to do so. While you are there, take a peek at the other blocks linked up too, there are some pretty ones!

I’ll add the New Mexican Star block to my stack – we’re almost done! I look forward to the next block, Melva!
