October Monthly Color Challenge

My October Monthly Color Challenge block is sneaking in right before the end of the month. Suddenly, it seems like October has flown by!

At the beginning of the month, Jen shared her inspiration for this month’s block – the little Ruby-crowned Kinglet. You can see this lovely little bird and read a bit about it in Jen’s post here

The color for this month’s block is olive green. Great, I thought, I have quite a bit of that color. I was surprised to find that I didn’t! I pulled out the olive greens I had, and none of them played very well together. So, I hunted for my Kona Pickle, which Rose (SomethingRosemade) calls Citron – I have decided to marry the two and have now started calling it “citronickle”. Makes me chuckle. Anyway, even my Kona Pickle didn’t want to come out to play. Just like the Ruby-crowned Kinglet, it has decided to be elusive and is hiding somewhere.

However, I managed to find an Alison Glass print that is close to Kona Pickle, and then paired it with this print (no idea of the designer) that was the remains of a fat quarter I had recently used.

It works for me, and I think it will blend well with the other monthly color challenge blocks. Here are the rest of my blocks for this year:

Two more months and our blocks for 2020 are done. I’m curious to see which colors are coming up next, aren’t you? (Actually, I already know, and I’ll be guest hosting once again for the December block.)

I was thinking about this monthly challenge as I put October’s block together, and why I enjoy it so much. The blocks are basic, easy to do for both beginner and advanced quilter. For those of us who have been quilting for awhile, I see these blocks similar to snitching that little piece of chocolate after a good meal. A sweet little something that gives so much satisfaction! If Jen offers this again in 2021, I do hope you’ll join in!

I’m linking up my October Monthly Color Challenge block with Patterns by Jen today for the October block link up. If you’d like to see other versions of this month’s block, you can find them on Jen’s blog, here

I think your choice of color for this block might be better than if you used the real olive ones. I like this fun funky pickle;) I can’t seem to get my hiney in gear for tomorrows hop project:0

I love the fabrics you chose for this block, Wendy! I do think it’s going to go perfectly with the rest. I’ve been working on my block this week, too – two of the four stars are done. Once those flying geese are trimmed, the rest goes together fast!

Wendy I am loving how these blocks are coming together. Looking forward to your finished quilt. I thought about doing it in 2021, but most of my stash is the same color family, May have to think about it though!

Citronickle! Too funny! Whatever you call it, you picked great fabrics that play nicely (or tartly!) together. Once again, I’m way behind on the monthly block. Seems like I’m always doing two months at one time, so maybe October and November will be a longer stitching session to get two blocks finished. It’s all good, right?

Citronickle….made me giggle…..I love that Kona has a color called Pickle. Don’t worry, you’ll find that pickle when you’re not even looking for it. LOL Great blocks Wendy!

Your blocks are coming together nicely and will make a wonderful quilt. I like the stars the colours are perfect together!

Love the new moniker for citron and pickle 😀 I like that AG print you used.
I just checked, and the last block I did was August before all the move craziness started. I found my blocks yesterday and wondered if I will actually finish the remainder of the blocks. I hope I can, but once I get unpacked I’m going to want to do Christmas sewing! I’ll definitely check out Jen’s blog for 2021 blocks and might just call it a day with the 2020 challenge. That’s hard for me to do but I need to learn to let it go – lol!

Hi Wendy! I love the color name – citronickle. You may have started a new trend. I’m glad you shared your post today – I never remember to go back and link up at the end of the month. It always just slips my mind. I love the fabrics and colors you chose together. It will look great with the previous months’ blocks. ~smile~ Roseanne
