October Monthly Color Challenge Block

It’s time for me to share my October Monthly Color Challenge block. October is half over already! Time flies when we’re having fun, right?!

The 2021 Monthly Color Challenge is hosted by Patterns by Jen. This year, Jen’s inspiration for the blocks come from fruits and veggies, and October’s fruit of inspiration is the pink grapefruit. We’re not big grapefruit eaters here, so I don’t have any recipes to share, and I don’t even have a grapefruit for a photo. Anyway, I do have a memory related to pink grapefruit.

My October block for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen - piecefulthoughts.com

When our daughter was little, she was given one of those fruity-scented lotions – and this one even had glitter in it. I’m pretty sure (wink) it was pink grapefruitty-tuitty or some silly name like that. We were going out as a family, and when she climbed into the car, she was slathered in glittery, very fruity-smelling lotion. She was so proud of herself – meanwhile BigJ and I were a bit overwhelmed by all that pink grapefruity-tuitty smell wafting through the entire car. Not wanting to squelch her joy and enthusiasm for all that glitter, we both quietly cracked our windows just a bit. Now that she’s older, we have a good laugh over that one.

I had this fun batik in my scraps – just enough for this block. Toss in a little pink Grunge and the block was done. This was a fun one to make!

What about you? Do you have your October Monthly Color Challenge block done?

What a lovely pairing of colors on this block–We had a lot of pink grapefruit for breakfast on weekends–it was considered to be a treat.—my Mom even bought us special serrated grapefruit spoons–and I felt very grown up using them;)) thanks for the memory hugs, Julierose

I haven’t had a grapefruit in several years. You found some great fabric in your stash to use for this block:)

LOL I haven’t had a grapefruit in the house in quite some time. Last time we were in Tuscon AZ pre-covid we were at a campground where you could pick fruit growing and I picked a bit and thought I was picking lemons & oranges (that still need to turn orange) – well they turned kind of a yellow/pink color instead and I realized I had picked mainly grapefruit along with the lemons – I don’t mind a little grapefruit juice but can’t mix it with certain medications so normally do not buy it.
The pink in the block is pretty

Our daughter loved the watermelon flavored gum. We nearly gagged when she would get in the car chewing it! LOL Your fabrics look great – love the batik!!

That turned out so pretty! Love your fabrics. My MIL once sent us a bag of grapefruits from their tree. I started eating one for lunch every day while I was working, and I lost ten pounds. Easiest unplanned diet ever. I only needed to lose ten pounds. Those were the days.

That’s a pretty one, Wendy! Great color choices for a pink grapefruit. You found a fun way to photograph it, too. I happen to love pink grapefruit – but only if it’s picked off my mom’s grapefruit tree at her home in Arizona! That spoiled me for anything bought in a store. Unfortunately, the house is sold now, so I think my pink grapefruit days are over!
