One Block Wednesday
One Block Wednesday, because I really only have one block to show you. After that, a little story that has no ending, yet.
Hands down one of my favorite BOMs this year has been the 2019 Monthly Color Challenge BOM hosted by Patterns by Jen. Her patterns are delivered promptly around the first of the month, the blocks are simple, use fabrics from my stash, and just plain fun. November’s color was yellow. Here is my block.
I’m just a little giddy over that yellow polka dot. I made this on a very cloudy, dreary day. It was a perfect block to make for a little ray of sunshine.
So that’s my one block Wednesday.
So How About a Story?
Every quilt has a story, right? So here’s the story of this next quilt. It all began with this sculpture, which is outside the Santa Fe library. I took this photo a couple of years ago, while we were visiting.
I knew I wanted to use that sculpture as inspiration for a quilt. The colors I used, however, completely surprised me. Actually, it was more that I had this charm pack and didn’t know what to do with it, so I used it for this quilt. I quickly finished the quilt top.
And it has been sitting in my UFO stack since then. I have pondered how to quilt it, with mild anxiety. So this week, I pulled it out. I ripped it apart, removing the white side pieces.
A close up of that narrow tower of improv blocks. Then I did this.
I cut it up, yes I did. The first cut is the deepest – it’s true. There was a little catch in my breath as I made that first slice.
I am having so much fun. This is going to be a slow process for me. Will you get to see it in its new form? Maybe, if I like it enough!
Happy Wednesday, friends!

You’re brave! I couldn’t cut up a quilt top, so I hope we get to see the result.

I too hope we get to see the quilt after the cut and switch and sew process.

Well, I love those colors together…both the Yellow block and the salmon/white one. I’m curious what made you decide to cut it up. I liked it the way it was, but I’m sure you’ll do something amazing with it. Your project “vision” is impressive.

You got us all curious as to how the ‘cut up’ ends up so you are obligated to show us now!!!!

Your yellow block is great, Wendy! I love the dot fabric! Good for you, cutting up that pieced strip that you weren’t excited about. I can’t wait to see what you do with these new pieces!

Hi Wendy! I think cutting up was brave yet the best thing you could have done for this cool fabric. It was that the original wasn’t quite improv enough. I can hardly wait to see where you go with these pieces. I just love the fabrics. ~smile~ Roseanne

Wendy, I gasped when I read you sliced and diced it up!!! You are a brave modern quilter. I can’t wait to see where you’re taking us with your story/quilt! And yes, that cute yellow block adds a ray of sunshine to our recent weather!

Fantastic. I love when someone has the courage to just go for it. I hope to see the results of this dramatic step. Taking it one step at a time is the only way to go!!!

Wow, I’m interested to see what this will become? Love that color! It looks kind of like flamingo, the kona color of the year a year or so ago.

Whoa! That is so totally not what I thought you were going to do when you pulled that piece out!! Be still my beating heart! I will be watching to see what this becomes… And you know from Instagram how much I love that yellow block.
