Patriotic Tablerunner UFO
This patriotic tablerunner UFO has been on my list for longer than I care to admit. Each year, I’ve told myself I’m going to finish it. Then it got put off because I couldn’t decide how to quilt it. I wanted it done this year, so I got to work.
Rather than fussing over the quilt design, I went with my serpentine stitch on my machine. I love the wavy lines, and it gives the quilt a nice texture. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting, which gives it a lovely weight.
Here’s a full view of the runner, which measures 22″ x 46″. The pattern is an older one from a Gathering Friends tablerunner book. I’ve had this quilt top so long I cannot recall any details on the fabric.
Here’s a close up photo of the quilting. I used Aurifil Dove Grey (#2600) for the quilting.
And here’s a photo of the backing fabric and the quilting.
With this finish, I think I have finally completed all of my patriotic UFOs, and just in time for the month of July.
Linking up today with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Tish at The Madd Quilter, Sherry at Powered by Quilting and Alycia at Alycia Quilts.

Congrats on a UFO finish! Table runner looks great and the quilting is fantastic — I was re-watching a Blu print class and the instructor talked about the serpentine stitch — I need to try it!

Thanks, Karla! Give it a try, just don’t watch the needle, it’s hypnotizing!

Happy 4th! I need to remember your philosophy, don’t fuss over the quilting and pick the easy serpentine stitch! The HSTs in the corners frame the piece so well.

Thanks, Paige! Sometimes the easy way is best!

Congrats on getting it done in time for this year. I think wavy quilting on patriotic projects is just perfect.

That is a great tablerunner, Wendy! I really like the design of it – those HSTs in the corners keeping catching my eye. The serpentine stitch is such a good one for quilting – perfect for this project!
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Diann! Those HSTs do add a nice touch, don’t they?

Beautiful and just in time for the July 4th picnic. It is obvious that you are just dying to throw a party – first the reversible placemats and now the picnic runner. Just ask me already 🙂 I will bring my famously spicy tandoori chicken skewers ready for the grill.

You are so ready for the 4th! I love this and that serpentine stitch is a great one. I did find my patriotic stash so something may still come out of the woodwork for the 4th.
piecefulwendy
Thanks! Perfect timing on finding the stash!

It’s very cute, and finished just in time for the 4th! It’s funny how we obsess about quilting sometimes, yet a sturdy all over design like this works so well. A table runner is going to get food spilled on it, so simple and relaxed is a great choice 🙂

Thanks, Louise!

Your choice of the serpentine stitch is perfect for your 4th of July runner. I have a 4th wallhanging that’s been waiting for quilting for lots of fingers long and I think the serpentine stick will be perfect for it. I have the stitch on my machine so thanks for the inspiration to do it, Wendy-sota!
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Rose! Glad I could lend some inspiration!

Congratulations on moving this sweet runner from UFO to celebratory table runner. The serpentine stitch worked well, and the colours are perfect. Enjoy the 4th!

Beautiful tablerunner Wendy! How did you keep the serpentine so evenly spaced?
piecefulwendy
Thank you! I marked the quilt with a chalk marker.
