Pieceful Monday
It’s Pieceful Monday once again, and things have been hopping in my sewing room. Most of what I worked on over the weekend is secret sewing, but I did sneak in a little play too. I’m delighted that I have now finished all of my deadline projects, so I can relax a bit and do some catching up on all the QALs this week.
A Purple Zippy Pouch
If you remember, I planned to give this little dress that I made with Paintbrush Studio Fabrics to a little girl.
Well, she has an older brother, and it didn’t seem right that I send her something with nothing in the package for him. His favorite color is purple, so I made him a pencil case, or zippy pouch for his stuff using scraps from my stash of Island Batiks. If you follow me on Instagram (@piecefulwendy) you may have already seen it.
While I was working on the pouch, Wilbur stepped in as my quality control assistant for my stash of zippers. He wasn’t so interested in helping me choose a zipper; he just wanted to pull every one out of the pouch.
Improv Fun
Once the quality control detail had moved on and the zippy pouch was done, packed up and mailed, I rewarded myself with a little fiddling around. First I played with these gray and black scraps I recently unearthed from a stack. I’m not sure where I’m going with these, but sometimes it’s just fun to mindlessly sew strips together.
What the photo doesn’t show is that some of the fabrics are a very deep blue/black, so I’m liking the variety of the neutrals.
It’s All Black & White
I have a little notebook that I keep by my chair in our living room. Sometimes, while we are watching a show, an idea for a quilt design will pop into my head, or I’ll get bored with the show (or it gets intense) and I need to do something with my hands. So I sketch up ideas. I had one black & white sketch in the notebook and I decided to see if I could make it. I played for a little bit . . .
And then I kind of lost interest, so I plopped them on my design board. I’ll see if I go any further with them. The top block is about 8 inches square. Yes, I’ve been pondering the Curated Quilts black & white challenge. We’ll see if I move forward with these.
Simply Sensational Quilt Along
This week I’ll be getting my second clue done for Kevin’s Simply Sensational Summer Scrap Quilt. I’m a bit behind, so I need to get my fanny in gear — the last clue comes out on Thursday!! This is a two color, three clue mystery. My first color is red. My second will be gold/golden tans — if I have enough! Fingers crossed!
What about you? What is your quilt goal for the week?

Happy Pieceful Monday, friends!

I like the black and white blocks! The improv looks like it could be a fun project.

Sew much going on in your studio, Wendy! Great idea–a zipper pouch for the bro. It looks like it passed quilty quality control! Those skinny little strips are adorable. Black & white–go for it on the Curated Quilts. I’ll be very interested to see how that mystery turns out. As for me, time for a long dog walk.

Your black and white blocks look interesting. I hope you continue on with them…or, turn them into mug rugs.

Wow you make my head spin with all of these goings-on! I really like the top black and white block and I do think you should submit it. Of course Wilbur just makes your sewing room complete.

Hi Wendy, your black and white blocks really look good – and different. Hope you get back in the groove!

Hi Wendy! This is a newsy little post. Wilbur looks like he is doing a spectacular job in Quality Control. That little pouch will be well received for storing all sorts of gems – you just never know what catches a little boys eye and needs to be saved. I look forward to see where your scrappy summer quilt goes with red, tan and ??. ~smile~ Roseanne

The dress & pencil bag are both lovely. I have to appreciate Wilbur’s attempts to help. LOL! Black and white quilts are so dramatic. I will be interested to see if you pursue this further.

Always fun to get a peek at what you’ve been up to! I love making zipper pouches – they are a great gift, aren’t they? Your black and white projects look like they were fun to play with, too! You’ve put me in the mood to work on an improv something or other now… 🙂

I think it’s great that you get to play in your sewing room. Everyone needs a good play session now and again, and yours are always so productive! Those black/white blocks are stunning – I can definitely see a b/w quilt, it would be fabulous.

Great job on all these fun projects. The improv looks like fun and I love the B&W. I am thinking one more of one of the blocks and the b&w is a go, as long as you are loving it!

Love the purple pouch and think it will be filled with really important things like a tiny car, a cool sticker, some lego guys and maybe a rock.
Those black and whites are amazing Wendy. Jeez – I love them both and hope you continue with them. As for me, I have five more blocks to quilt on Susie’s memory quilt and then just the outermost border. Yay! I need to figure out what I want to use for binding. xoxo

Those little black and white blocks are fabulous! I am having cat envy now, too, after seeing your sweet feline helper with the zippers. I have giant dogs (two Rottweilers weighing 95 lbs and 104 lbs) and they don’t hang out in my studio much when I’m in there, but if I don’t close the gate when I’m NOT in there, one of them steals thread cones and chews them up or pulls out everything in the trash can. If either one of my dogs hopped up on the table to “help” pick a zipper, the whole thing would probably collapse! 🙂

Oh, your work is always so gorgeous. I love that top b&w block. How thoughtful of you to include a pencil case for the older brother, too! Thanks for linking up to What I Made Monday!

I do like your little dress. I have recently got a little grandaughter, she’s still very new. I look forward to making her things, I will have to remember your blog post !

Oh Wilbur, you are such a lovely pest! I know a furry boy over here who is just like you. Wendy, your top black and white block stopped me in my scrolling…. I hope you get back to this one, it’s very eye catching and I like a whole lot. 🙂
