Pieces of the Old Santa Fe Trail Block 5
This weekend I finished the Pieces of the Old Santa Fe Trail Block 5. Have you read Melva’s post for this block? You can find it right here. I enjoyed choosing the fabrics for this block. I was the winner of a fat quarter from Melva recently, and the brown in my block is that FQ fabric. (Thank you, Melva!)
The mention of donkeys in the excerpt in Melva’s post made me think of this cute little donkey sculpture (above) that greeted us during our stay at a casita in Santa Fe.
On another stay, this piece of art on the wall is the church (I think) mentioned in the excerpt. I’m enjoying visualizing the various places as I read the excerpts
Of course, it also reminded me of this pretty church we walked past on our most recent visit – Rosario’s Chapel.
Anyway, I have been enjoying a walk down memory lane as I read each of Melva’s posts.
I took a little walk out to my backyard for a quick photo of my block.
I like the look of this block. Although it’s the Pieces of the Old Santa Fe Trail Block 5, there’s still time to join us. You can find all of the blocks aver at Melva Loves Scraps.
If you want to see my previous blocks, you can see them all in this post.
Happy Stitching!

I’m not usually much for browns but I really like them in this block, and the photo on the rocks & pebbles is beautiful.

I’m enjoying your blocks and Melva’s stories. I haven’t visited this part of the USA so it’s very interesting!

looks like you have fun memories of your stay in Santa Fe like I do of Colorado

Very pretty block – I love browns! Oh those New Mexico skies, so breathtaking, and I don’t use that word lightly.

I think it is really cool that you visited Santa Fe and can relate the stories to something you have seen in person.

Your block is sew pretty. Thanks for the travel log. I visited Santa Fe a few years ago and fell in love with the area. Very different from the mid-west! I’m printing the patterns to make when I get caught up on other things. Thanks for posting about them.

Your posts about Santa Fe have me thinking we have not visited there nearly enough! (And it’s so close, really!) To have a quilting related project to go along is just perfect. That’s a pretty block – love the brown and pink together.

Very pretty, Wendy. I just ordered my fabric for the quilt along and am hoping to catch up before end of summer! LOL I drove through Santa Fe on my way from Denver back to Alabama. I wish I had had the time to stop and sight see! Maybe one day!

Displaying your block on the rocks is a great idea. The block came out perfectly. I can’t wait to see how they all fit together. I think my favorite so far is the snowflake.
Happy quilting.

Love your fabric choice for this last block — it’s very pretty — the rocks were a perfect backdrop!

Hi Wendy! Oh, your block looks so pretty . . . and it is nice to use the fat quarter win right away! Melva really shares a wonderful tale with the release of each block – she really has a writing talent. I look forward to each new release. ~smile~ Roseanne

Look at all those sharp points! A beautifully pieced block. Fun photos of Santa Fe trail visits. We’ve visited once, many, many years ago.

I also like the look of this block! To my eye the pink both blends with and pops against the other colours. Yum.

So fun that you have a FQ from Melva to use in this block. Love the way this block looks.
