Pillow Quartet
I now have a pillow quartet residing on my bed, in perfect harmony. What was going to be Pillow #3 has become Pillow #4, which makes a quartet. If I add any more pillows, there will be no room for the cat!
My latest finish featured this bundle of fabric from Needle & Foot. It is Bernie’s January Blogger Bundle. The fabrics are so bright and cheery. The yellow is just delicious!
Well before I had this bundle, I had my eye on this pattern from Amy Friend called Trade Winds. It’s a free download you can find here. It a paper foundation pattern that goes together so quickly and simply. Just the type of pattern I like!
The pattern works well with fat quarters. With a little careful cutting, I was able to use each of the fabrics for the pillow top. The only fabric I added was the backing.
Once I had the top pieced, I considered doing some straight line quilting, but I had done that on the other pillows, so I needed to mix it up a bit. I got really crazy and went with my go-to wavy lines. Ha! I wouldn’t want to do anything too risky, y’know?
I didn’t want to use a neutral thread, and was delighted to find that I had this yellow Aurifil # 2135 on hand. With the pillow pattern having the name Trade Winds, those wavy lines make me think of warm, sunny summer breezes.
For the backing, I used a Dear Stella print and made a simple envelope back. The pillow is 16 inches square, so I popped a pillow form right in there and it was done.
Meet the Pillow Quartet
It all began with this pillow. You can read about it right here.
Next came this one, made with the February Blogger Bundle from Needle & Foot.
This little Sashiko pillow will always remind me of my visit to Santa Fe when I fractured my fibula. No fibbing. Sorry, I had to say it.
And rounding out the quartet is today’s pillow.
Here they are, together at last!
Are you working on a pillow project? I’d love to hear about it!

A lovely bundle to play with and a great pattern for a cushion. It looks great with the other three and your quilting thread was the perfect colour to enhance the lovely yellow fabric. You must have the smartest bed in town.

Wendy, I love these pillows. They look perfect. Did you make the white quilt and other pillows? Love the quilting in them.

Thank you, Jan!

Wow those are all beautiful. Since we are all snowed in due to a ghastly nor’easter that blew in yesterday I may decide to make some springy pillow-forms…or placemats. I think one or more of these patterns would work. So, thanks for posting.

Thank you, Velda!

Hi Wendy,
Ooh, I love those fabrics. Those turquoise, navy and gray – the yellow, too. Just perfect! All four of them look so inviting on your bed. I need to step up my bed pillows when I get Postcard finished. Thanks for the great ideas! Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne

I do have a pillow challenge coming up for Island Batik. I love your quartet, all so different but go together so well. The first one you made-the way you quilted it makes me think of corduroy every time I see it!
piecefulwendy
It does look like corduroy, doesn’t it! Haha!
Karen
I love all those pillows – so pretty!

Barbara
Very cute. No pillows here, but maybe I should give it a try.

I think you should! Thanks, Barbara!

Love that yellow quilting thread, Wendy! It was the perfect choice for those wonderfully appropriate wavy lines 🙂 Sweet quartet, singing in four part harmony!

Fantastic! They look so great on the bed – pillow friends. I think the fabrics and pattern and quilting you did on this one all work really well together. I love the yellow quilting thread!

Spotlight please for these pillows, oh wait they’re in your bedroom so we know the lighting is really good there, (Sandra’s comment still makes me laugh). Well, you’ve inspired me to make some pillows now and I love the quilting on the latest one. And the fabric is so scrumptious!

They look FANTASTIC Wendy! Wavy quilting LOL dangerous. Thanks for the squirrel, I mean link to Amy’s pattern…Yeah I have too many pillows on my bed, but I can’t stop making them. I’ve decided to switch them out so I can make as many as I like! ah Rose, always reminding me of my silliness…. If your cat is like mine, he’ll make a nest in there no prob!

Your pillows are so cute! I was going to ask if you cycled out your pillows with different colors until I saw the photo with 4 of them on your bed! They look great. I really should make more pillows 😀
