PQ Challenge 12.6
PQ Challenge 12.6 is the final challenge for the 2021 Project Quilting. The challenge theme is Ab Intra, Latin for “from within”. Of all the challenge projects I’ve done, this was the most difficult. What I made was not difficult at all, it was deciding what to make that was a challenge.
After much thought and whining, I came up with a nod to my heritage. I come from Swedish and German heritage, so I put this little mat together, just for fun. The center is the Swedish and German flags, surrounded by an improv border combining the colors of both flags.
The finished mat is 6-1/2″ square. All of the fabrics are from my stash, and it is the first of the PQ challenge projects that I’ve made with all solid fabrics.
A little peek at the back and the grid quilting using Aurifil Yellow (#2135) 50 wt.
Since this is my last challenge piece, here are all of the projects I’ve made for Project Quilting 2021.
Projects 12.5 and 12.6:
This was my first year participating in Project Quilting, and I’m so glad I did. I hope you enjoyed seeing my PQ Challenge 12.6 Ab Intra piece, as well as my little parade of PQ projects!

What a great idea! I decided not to do this challenge.

Yes, that was a hard topic to stitch and you have made a striking piece.

My favorite quilting is just perfect on your flag piece. You had great interpretation to each of the challenges. I would still be thinking what should I do for the first one and never gotten any farther. Great work!

Great idea. I love all your challenge quilts, especially the one for the sea. It’s a fun challenge. I’m sorry we’re always traveling at that time of year.

Really impressive line-up of finishes…
The grid quilting adds so much even though I wouldn’t have thought to go for that, I’m wondering if the ‘double’ lined aspect of it grounds the piece more so than if it had been merely the single line grid?
Upon inspection of your binding – ahem – It looks like a very clean finish!

That is a great solution to this challenging prompt! I love the colors you used, and the all solid fabric, as well as the quilting. And wait – just 6.5 inches?! That’s some tiny piecing!

Quilting is in my Blood
I have really enjoyed seeing all your challenge minis. They’re so different but they all have your stamp. I feel inspired when I read about your thought processes regarding these challenges.

I love the parade of projects! Here’s where I’d tell my favorite, but there’s a tie between 4-5 of them! Each has a different reason for being a favorite.

This is a gorgeous collection Wendy! Inspiration sometimes takes awhile to arrive but it sure did when you made your heritage piece!

What a super collection of tiny art pieces! Will you display them all in a row? I can see them hanging from a thin wire together 🙂
The Joyful Quilter
What a fun way to display your heritage, Wendy! Blending the flags’ colors into an improv piece was inspired. You ROCKED season 12 of Project QUILTING!!

I’m all German and would love to get something made with the flag some day. It’s really a fun collection and I’m sure they were as fun to make!

Wendy the whole collection of your PQ projects is so inspiring! Such a wonderful variety if both traditional and modern techniques. Congratulations on doing all 6 challenges. I’m sure your hooked now and will do the challenge again next year.

Very nicely done! A nice collection to remember these 2021 Challenges. I think the Snail’s Trail fish is my favorite. You did very well on your flag quilt, even though the challenge was kind of hard to figure out.

Each challenge piece is terrific! I might choose the cats, the snails trail ocean waves or the improv circles as a favorite, but don’t hold me to it right now. Both your vision for the challenges and your skills to pull off the project are impressive.

A very fun collection, with lots of different approaches and techniques. I can’t decide if the house and duck or fish and sea is my favorite.
