Prairie Flower Block

I have finished my Prairie Flower block for the Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail sew along hosted by Melva Loves Scraps.

I’ve been trying to walk more lately. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve tried to get out each day. I’m up to 2 miles a day now, as I walk/plod along in my comfy tennies, soft socks, stretchy yoga capris, t-shirt and hair in a pony tail. Still, that last half mile doesn’t seem to get done fast enough. Reading the excerpt in Melva’s post about Marion’s walk with her mama adjusted my attitude about that last little half mile. I hardly have right to complain. If you haven’t read the excerpt and you’re curious what I’m referring to, you’ll need to go read it. You can find it right here.

Often when I walk, these flowers greet me along the way.

Since I’ve used purple and pink in my earlier blocks, I decided I’d go with yellow for my Prairie Flower block. Based on what I read in the excerpt, I think Marion would have seen some yellow flowers along the way, too.

I’ve been enjoying making these blocks when Melva releases them, along with reading the excerpts and recalling our trips to Santa Fe.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek at my Prairie Flower block!

Happy Monday, all!

Great idea, Wendy–make a flower block patterned after the ones you’re seeing every day on your walk! Cute block line up!!!

Very pretty block, and I like all the blocks together! I’ve enjoyed reading the excerpts as they are so well written and fascinating. Your walking outfit sounds just like mine. We stopped walking when the temps got so hot even in the mornings and need to start back up again.

If I’m being honest, our evening walk is more of an evening stroll. I feel like I should apologize for that and strive to speed it up. But, I doubt I’ll do either.

Your block collection is super. And I’d like to thank you for sending me to Melva’s site. I’m loving her stories. I visited Santa Fe once and fell in love with The Land of Enchantment.

Those are pretty blocks. I like quilts where all the blocks are different. I’m almost inspired to get out and walk more, but I’m waiting for the garden to take less time. I keep telling myself I’ll get out and walk more when we travel next month.

That’s a pretty block, Wendy! And I agree about the yellow – lots of wildflowers around here seem to be yellow. Your collection of blocks is growing and looking good! Glad you’re getting out to walk – we try to do that, too!

I love the yellow… and I immediately thought of my Grandma T. She was quick to tell everyone “Yellow is my favorite color, you know.” I had considered using yellow as well, but maybe with a brown in the corner to look like a sunflower. 🙂

Good for you! I love walking outdoors early in the morning when the air is fresh and I can still hear the birds…before the cars go speeding by! You did a great job incorporating that yellow into your block.
