QAL Catch Up
I’ve been working on getting caught up on some of my quilt alongs and blocks of the month.
2019 Monthly Color Challenge
Patterns by Jen is offering this challenge once again this year. This is my first year participating. The pace is nice, with one block each month. Here’s my April block.
Minnesota Quilters Mystery Quilt Along
I joined in on this mystery quilt along this year because Suzy Webster designed the quilt and I’m looking forward to seeing the design. For this mystery quilt, I chose to go with fabrics I love, rather than be reserved in my fabric choices “just in case I didn’t like it” (do you ever do that?). Art Gallery Fabrics are some of my favorites. This is going to be a bold quilt, and I cannot wait to see it.
Summertime Sampler Block of the Month
While we were on our way home from New Mexico, we stopped in at the Missouri shop hosting the BOM to pick up my April packet. I came home with the remaining packets for this sampler designed by Shelly of Prairie Moon Quilts, so I’m pretty excited about that.
If you ever happen to be in the vicinity of the cute little town of Brunswick, Missouri, make sure you stop in at the Sew Sweet Quilt Shop. It is a delightful shop, with two floors of fabric, and friendly people. I could’ve brought so many things home with me, but I left some there, just in case I go through once again. Finish your shopping spree with some mint chocolate chip ice cream from Kaitlyn’s just across the street. We did 🙂
Moda Blockheads 2
I have to admit, I’m beginning to whine wonder if I’ll ever get done with this quilt. All of the blocks have been released now, so it’s up to me to get caught up. I worked on one block today, spending more time with the ripper than I wanted to. After I was finished with that block and tossed it in the bin, I decided to begin sewing the sections together and see if that made finishing the blocks more appealing. I’m not sure what to think.
This is just the third section of the quilt, with 16 blocks in this section alone. I have unfinished blocks in sections 1 and 2, so I can’t sew them together quite yet. This is the first sampler quilt I’ve ever done, and I’m not sure I really like all of the different sizes of blocks. My fabrics are Kim Diehl and Jo Morton, which play well together and are some of my favorites. However, this quilt is so incredibly busy I’m not really sure whether I like it or not. Since I’m only 8 blocks from being done, I’ll definitely finish the quilt. Will I keep it? I’ll wait to decide that once I have it all pieced.
Beothuk Star QAL
This quilt along, hosted by Sandra at mmm!Quilts, has just begun. If you like star quilts, this is worth checking out. It’s a small quilt, perfect for a baby quilt or wall hanging. I’m joining in, I have my fabric, but no photo. I’ll be using Sandra’s Blogger Bundle that she curated for Needle & Foot.
Northfield Quilters Quilt Show
If you are a local reader, or visiting this Twin Cities metro area this weekend, I invite you to take a little drive to my hometown, Northfield, for our quilt show this Saturday, April 27th (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) and Sunday, April 28th (10:00 am – 4:00 pm). I’ll have a few quilts in the show. We have a featured quilter, and her quilts are just stunning. We also have a bed turning event as well as a beautiful raffle quilt. Leave me a comment if you want more information.
That’s just a few of the projects I’m trying to catch up on. What are you working on this week?

Playing catch up I do that too often. Maybe once you get the moda blocks all done it will shine.

Wow, you’re really doing a ton of QALs this year! They all look like interesting blocks, so I can see why you joined in 🙂

nice blocks that you are working on. I’m trying to get two things finished here so I can cross them off the list and move on to another and get this long list of projects done – I have many more in my head to work on
My Sewful Retirement
Hi Wendy, I love your April blue block! QAL must keep you busy! I wish I lived closer to attend the Northfield Quilters Show.

You’ve been working on lots of fun things! I enjoyed seeing them all. Pretty blues in your color challenge block – it’s like looking out a window! I love finding new quilt shops when we’re traveling, and it sounds like the one in Missouri is a fun one. My son used to live in Missouri, only about 30 miles from Missouri Star Quilt Co, but I’d never heard of them until he moved away! Your Moda Blockheads project is really something! I’m always interested to see how blocks of different sizes fit together.

Thanks, Diann! Really something is a good way to describe it. It is a hot mess. I was hoping it would turn out better. Ah well.

You are doing a great job catching up. Are the blockhead sections the same size? You could add a lattice for some separation….or make smaller baby quilts as donations. No rules…just make it something you will love working with. Samplers are hard and sometimes I think it all jumbled is a bit hard. When I taught samplers, my goal was to make each block stand on its own, and then make it work together. It is harder with the variety of sizes and styles to do that but nothing says you have to do as it was planned! OR just make it a donation quilt – even for the time you put into it – you learned, you finished, you move on, someone is comforted.

I’m so behind on all the QALs and I’m still signing up for new ones! Love the blue Ohio star – the background especially. You’ve worked on keeping all of them going in one direction.

You’re doing the MN Quilters mystery?! Art Gallery fabrics are definitely my fav. That’s going to be gorgeous! And speaking of gorgeous, that’s what your Blockheads BOM is already! I think you’re just a bit too close to it at this time. To the rest of us it’s beautiful!

Thanks, Nancy, I’m hoping you’re right on the Moda project!

I seem to living a “catch-up” life right now….and I’m way, way behind! I love your April block for Jen’s QAL….the lighter blue is a perfect background….it’s like looking out a lovely window onto a winter scene. I totally agree with your comments on Blockheads2……even though I’m behind (no surprise there, huh?) on making the blocks I’ve downloaded all of them….but I’m not sure I’ll like the finished product. These blocks may become several standalone projects. Thanks for sharing, Wendy….blessings.

Loving (as per usual) all your QAL eye candy! How you do all of them and pattern test and blog hop I do not know but you do it well! As for photo of Beothuk Star, grab the one off Bernie’s store or my blog and add it here and then I hope you link up as the widget closes tonight. And there’s a sweet little prize…

Ok, will do. Thanks!

You are one BUSY lady!!! I’m loving your monthly blocks by Jen. Did you know that blue is my FAVOURITE colour??? 🙂

You certainly have a lot of projects on the burner! Even if the blockheads got sent to the back, hehe. I think your summer time sampler will be sweet!

I just love how you placed the fabric in your April Block to keep the scene together-what a great idea. So far the only QAL I committed to this year is Sandra’s Beothuk Star. BTW I do love the Blockhead Blocks and I don’t think it’s going to look busy–Sampler Quilts just go together.

Looks like you’re keeping busy. I love your Blockhead blocks. Lots of color and movement.

Once again you have been busy. Enjoy the quilt show and take time to admire yours that are on display. Please post some pics
