Quick Make Monday
I have a quick make to show you today, but first let me tell you how I got here.
He’s back, and he’s brought friends!
Squirrel No. 1
Over coffee with Tracie (Riceford Streams) on Friday, I mentioned to her that I was going to make a small Kim Diehl quilt. So once I got home, I got right to work . . . on a completely different project. I finished that quilt top. Here’s a peek at the fabrics from my stash.
That’s all you get to see for now. I’ll show you the finished quilt soon. It was a very fun project to make.
Squirrel No. 2
After that was finished, I got started on the Kim Diehl mini. I took a break from cutting the fabrics to have lunch and while I was eating, took a peek at Instagram. Can you see where this is going?
Squirrel No. 3
I saw this cute little basket, a free pattern posted on the Robert Kaufman website. I had everything I needed, the fabric and the interfacing (but not the specific type called for in the pattern).
The outer fabric is a Sarah Golden fat quarter I bought from Bernie at Needle and Foot. I’ve been waiting for just the right project to use it. The lining is a Windham Hill fabric in my stash.
The pattern has leather handles. I didn’t have any leather, so I just made the basket without handles. I can always add them later. The basket measures 10″ x 10″ and is 4″ deep. The pattern also has directions for making a tray.
This is a very quick project that could easily be done in half a day. It would be a nice gift, or a great little storage bin for the quilt room. It was fun to make.
By the way, Tracie at Riceford Streams has written a great post on why we make quilts, and encourages us to play, have fun, risk, and create. My weekend was all about having fun while I create. Take a minute and pop over to Tracie’s blog and read her post. Be sure to leave her a comment too.
So that’s my quick make Monday. Maybe I’ll get that Kim Diehl done by Wednesday.
What about you? What was happening in your quilt room this weekend?
Linking up today with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts for Main Crush Monday and Becca at Pretty Piney for What I Made Monday.

Cute cat basket, Wendy! Definitely worth the distraction. Now to find some cute squirrel fabric….

You always have the loveliest squirrels Wendy! 🙂 When I saw those first fabrics I’m thinking ‘that ain’t no Kim Diehl fabric’. Now I know why! LOL Sounds like you had a lot of fun in your sewing room!

Love the basket. At first, I thought you’d made a bed for your kitty.
piecefulwendy
That’s on my list too! Thanks!

Tease! But I like your basket.

Wonderful visits from the squirrel muse. Love that little basket – and look forward to seeing the others. I did get 10 of 20 blocks quilted on my IB January project. Today is quilt B&W and figure out the quilting on the other 10 blocks. OH and maybe start Amy Ellis’s improv. Got the emails, but am already behind…ha ha…but I sure do want to play.
piecefulwendy
Well, glad to know your squirrels are rustling about too! All of those projects sound great!

See – you found just the right project for that linen fabric. It was worth hanging on to it! So cute. I love the idea of little leather strap handles – or you could make them out of one of the matching linens? Or not – it is so sweet! Hmmm…now what will you put in it?
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Bernie! I think the fabric was just right too. It might store cat toys? Maybe.

Ah yes, Oh Grand Poobah of Squirrels. Indeed, you continue to show us why you deserve the moniker. I just adore that basket – and you had all the ingredients so why not?! Kim Diehl – I love her stuff. All of these seem like they were required to be made. In your honor, I also hopped to a squirrel of my own with the fabrics you sent. Details on Saturday!
piecefulwendy
Well, as GPoS, I am delighted you caught a squirrel of your own. Someday I may have to relinquish my title to you!

NO WAY! I am no where near qualified to be GPoS. Or SGP. Which title do you prefer oh great one?! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks, Karla, I’ll have to watch for your basket post!

Hi Wendy, That basket is great. I could hold all kinds of quilting doo dads in it.
piecefulwendy
It sure could, Cherie! Thanks!
Preeti Harris
Completely different project??? Your squirrel #1 had me laughing. Oh the basket is so cute, especially with that kitty cat fabric.
