Quilt Show Bits, Part 2
One of the highlights of our quilt show is our Featured Quilter. This year it was a treat to see the many quilts of Carol Schwankl. Carol is a delightful lady, who loves to quilt and takes a great deal of pride in her workmanship. When she talks about her quilts, you can see her passion for her craft in her smile and in the twinkle in her eye. Carol was kind enough to allow me to photograph her along with some of her quilts for this post. Thanks, Carol!
Carol began sewing when she was 7 years of age. Through the years, she has sewn clothing (suits, formal wear, wedding dresses) but eventually settled on quilting. She especially enjoys traditional quilting — applique, hand sewing and machine piecing. She has won numerous state and national awards for her quilts.
Here is Carol with one of her favorite quilts.
She had a lovely variety of quilts on display. A beautiful medallion quilt is shown here.
There were several quilts hung along the wall.
More quilts were layered on tables, and draped over a railing. It made a beautiful display. I didn’t think to ask her how many she had at the show, but there were many!
My favorite was this beautiful New York Beauty.
The colors were absolutely stunning, and you know how much I love those points!
Truly, Carol’s workmanship is amazing. Everything is precise and perfect.
Carol creates her quilts from start to finish. Her quilting is gorgeous.
Notice that tiny stipple and pretty trapunto.
My photos don’t begin to do her work justice, but I wanted to share a few with you. I wish you could have seen them at the show.
Thanks again, Carol, for letting me show off some of your beautiful quilts!

it looks like Carol is a great quilter!

Beautiful quilts. I’d love to learn trapunto, but that would require going to a class…away from home. Such a terrible homebody here.

Hi Wendy! Oh, that NYB is just gorgeous. Another friend is making one for her sister, and I had never heard of that pattern before. Now I recognize it anywhere, and I can only imagine how stunning it is in person. Oh those points in the borders!!!!! Holy moly. I’ll never get that good but I sure love seeing others who do. So much inspiration in your post today (and where’s that first place ribbon post or picture???). ~smile~ Roseanne

Wendy, you are right Carol’s work is beautiful! Amazing art work and her detail is exquisite! As everyone has mention the NYB is fabulous ♥
My first attempt at trapunto was a disaster — now I use my embroidery machine 🙂
