QuiltAlong Catch Up
I’ve been playing catch up on my quiltalongs this weekend. With the house to myself, there’s been quite a bit of uninterrupted sewing time. Earlier projects caused me to fall behind in a couple of quilt alongs, so it was time to get caught up.
Plus Playtime QuiltAlong
This was my first project of the weekend, because I felt I was terribly far behind. You may recall that I am using Kim Diehl and Jo Morton fabrics. Positively Autumn has been really fun to make.
Here’s the first row.
And here’s the second.
Here they are together.
Want to see the third row? Well, sorry. You’ll have to wait.
I couldn’t help finishing it though; I was having so much fun. Sandra did a great job on the pattern! Other fabric pulls for this quilt kept coming to mind — grey/white graphic background, bright graphic plus and plusettes or maybe a transparency fabric pull, using one color in different tones/shades for the background, plus and plusettes. The Plus Playtime squirrels are positively having a party!
So stay tuned. I’ll show you the whole top soon. Good things come to those who wait.
Fireburst Mystery QuiltAlong
Here are the fabrics I’m using for the Fireburst Mystery Quilt. I really like the orange/coral fabric. It is so bright and cheerful, along with the bright yellow and green. I got all of the fabric from Needle and Foot.
Here’s the cutting all done.
Aren’t these so, so cute???
They’re just so, so WRONG. Ah well, I have some fun HSTs to play with later. Now that I have read the instructions correctly, back to the cutting board . . .
While I was working on the half flying geese, I used this nifty tool, the Doug Leko Mini Simple Folded Corner ruler.
I got it in a recent Sew Sampler box. Didn’t think I’d use it much, but I keep pulling it out, Sure wish I’d have had this for the Squiggles quilt!!
Anyway, here’s the next step, all done! I’m all caught up! Yippee!
I have two more days of quilting fun, so what will I be working on?
- Wedding gift – table runner or mini
- Quilter’s Planner Blocks of the Month (I’m behind)
- Clean up my sewing room
- Fun project for me
What about you? How’s your week shaping up? What will you be working on?
Happy Monday, friends!

You are going to have a cute quilt all ready for fall soon. It’s nice to be done before one needs it! The fabric for Fireburst is awesome! Yes I am loving coral a lot these days too. You are using your time so wisely:)

Thanks, Vicki! QALs are caught up, now I can play a bit!
Lisa
Everything is looking great. The playtime plus looks so good in the autumn fabrics and I like the idea of a transparency.

Thanks, Lisa! So many possibilities with Plus Playtime!

Your Plus Playtime is coming along great! It’s nice to find a block of time to work on projects and make some good progress. Your corrected blocks are super cute! There’ll be a use for those oops blocks–mini, table runner, back side, label?
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Nancy! I have ideas for those HSTs 😊
Tish
What is it with Playtime Plus…once you start you just can’t stop 🙂 Yours is looking great! I LOVE your fireburst fabrics! At first I was like what’s wrong with those HST’s, but I see now. Hopefully, it wasn’t too bad of a fix. I love how you taped swatches of your fabric to the fabric page, that’s a really good idea to help keep things straight.

Thanks, Tish! I love both QALs. So fun!
My Sewful Retirement
Hi Wendy, your Plus Playtime is coming along really nicely — love the autumn colors. The trimming corners tool is pretty cool — I use the one by Prairie Star Quilting – it’s definitely one tool that I absolutely love 🙂
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Karla! The trimming tool is definitely handy!

Well, I *still* don’t see what’s wrong with the HST’s, but maybe that’s because I haven’t actually started on mine. Heck, I still need to pull the fabrics! LOL Uninterrupted days of sewing sounds like a bit of heaven. I hope you have lots of fun Wendy!

Ooh, now I see it! 🙂

😊😊

Haha! You’ll get caught up soon! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your “oops!” moment. That will help me double check the instructions so I don’t do the same thing. I love your Playtime Plus fabrics! You did a great job keeping the contrast up between all the various pluses big and small 🙂
piecefulwendy
I just didn’t read thoroughly and I was rushing. If you read the instructions, it’s very clear…
Bernie
Louise, I was thinking the same thing. I need to double check the instructions before I start sewing. 🙂

Hi Wendy! You crack me up. Wrong, wrong, wrong – no one else knows they are wrong!! Would it really matter I can’t help but wonder. Your Plus Playtime looks fabulous darling – I adore those colors and fabrics. And I know Fireburst will look fab as well, especially now that it’s right, right, right. Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
piecefulwendy
Haha! Thanks, Roseanne!
Kathleen McCormick
I love your fabrics for Playtime Plus and for Tish’s QAL! You did a lot of catching up. It did crack me up that we had nearly identical entries this morning of both quilts. Too funny! I was tempted to keep going with Playtime BUT the schedule keeps me in line. I am so looking forward to being done with more of my UFOs so I can be really focusing on new things – but I think I need at least one more year on many of them!
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Kathleen! Will read your post when I get back from some appointments. Looking forward to it!

Thanks for the heads up to read carefully before I sew. Know someone has valued from your oops.
Bernie
Same as the above Wendy! I will make sure to really check the instructions for the Fireburst QAL before starting. Love the idea of putting a small piece of the fabrics on the cut sheet too. Thanks so much – going to do that today!
piecefulwendy
It’s not the fault of the instructions, but mine for buzzing through them. Take a minute and read them clearly. 🙂

After reading your post, I felt we were sewing together since we were working on the same projects, too bad we’re in different states. And you wouldn’t have made the boo boo because you would be using my die-cutter. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you have a it nice block of sewing time. Three out of the five sisters are working on the Plus Playtime and the Fireburst Mystery QALs. The other two don’t know what they’re missing. Maybe we can convince them to do Plus Playtime when we make another one. Love your fabric choices!
piecefulwendy
Wouldn’t that have been fun, stitching together?! Thanks, Rose! Yes, we’ll have to get the other sisters involved!
Dione @ Clever Chameleon
Well, your wrong HSTs are glorious and we’ve al been there! I love the fabric combination you have chosen for your Fireburst Mystery. Great colours! 🙂
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Dione! I have plans for those little HSTs!
Dione @ Clever Chameleon
And I look forward to seeing them 🙂 Your plus quilt is looking fab too. Feel free to bring something to the Chameleon’s Tuesday linky one day. xx
piecefulwendy
Thanks, I will!

Quilt alongs are so fun! Looks like your making good progress!
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Beth, they are! Thanks, too, for hosting the linky!
Preeti
Love the two rows. FINE!!! I’ll wait for the third row but I am sure it will be beautiful. Really like the fall colors of your plus quilt.
piecefulwendy
Thank you, Preeti! Full reveal coming soon!
