Relaxing with Handwork
The last part of the week and the weekend turned out to be much busier than I had anticipated. In between all the running to and fro, I found time to relax with handwork.
While I was at the Minnesota Quilt Show, I picked up a couple of kits by Bonnie Sullivan. The kits were new to me, having pre-printed panels that allow you to stitch them or leave them as they are. You can see the patterns and kits on the website here.
I’m currently working on the “Be” Bowl Fillers. You’ll get to see them soon. I want to show you the one I have done, Once the stitching was done, I added wool appliqué. I enjoy working with these kits because you can just pick them up and begin. There is no tracing or any work beforehand, other than gathering your needle and thread.
This kit is named “The Earth Laughs in Flowers” and the finished panel fits an 8 x 10 frame. I haven’t decided if I will frame it yet.
I thought of this panel as I went on a walk recently. Here’s a few of the flowers and plants that greeted me.
Aren’t they lovely? The earth does laugh in flowers, and they are beautiful!
What’s Coming Up?
I have a few projects I’m working on that I’ll be sharing soon. In September, I’ll be part of the Welcome to My House Blog Hop, posting on September 10th. In October, I’ll be sharing a Fat Quarter Shop project I’m working on. You can see peeks of the project under the hashtag #jollybarmeriguequilt. I’ll be posting a few progress pictures along the way.
I’m hoping I have a quieter week so I can spend some quality time with my sewing machine. How about you? What does your week look like?

That looks fun! So is the wool already cut-do you use fusible on the back. I guess I scooted on by their booth, I don’t need another craft avenue!!!!!!!!!!! The milk weeds bring back memories. Back in the day mom and I gathered them along with others to make dried bouquets. We sprayed them with hair spray to stop them from opening.

I love seeing milkweeds – I do not have them here or if they are here in Arkansas I have never seen them but they were in Wisconsin where I grew up and also in some of the states we have traveled. My week will probably be quite with work around the house and yard while we wait for the A/C in the camper to be repaired so we get a late start to our trip

Love the handwork. Isn’t it lovely to have something you can just pick up and do? 😊

I like Bonnie Sullivan. She designed the Tuxedo’s Tales blocks I’m working on.

Exciting that you were able to attend a quilt show. Those little projects than one can work on with little prep are wonderful. Thanks for sharing photos of your outdoors. Have a good week.

I knew you were up to something when I asked you if you were behaving and if you bought anything. I had to laugh at your post title because I glanced at it quickly and thought it said Homework and not Handwork. I love these kits and I think you should add a fabric border and make it a wallhanging. I’m sure you have the right fabrics…..

Oh, that is such a sweet embroidery! I like that it comes drawn out for the stitcher. Pretty photos. Your hostas look beautiful! (Ours got hail damage back in July.) I’m looking forward to your WTMH blog hop!

Hi Wendy! Oooh, a sneak peek on a Jolly Bar project?! I love Jolly Bars! Did you know bars spell another word like bras when typed too quickly? HAHA! Anyway – I love your handwork kit. Hmm, maybe this will end up in your kitchen? Happy Monday, friend! ~smile~ Roseanne

Last week was nuts for me, what with two hop posts. This week is a tad crazy too, with running around, but good stuff like today was a sewing day at a good friend’s house on the Detroit River (GORGEOUS view as she’s right at the mouth where it flows into Lake Erie) and then meeting up with Cindy (Stitchin at Home) later this week in Chatham. 🙂 I love that saying and I love your stitching on the piece!

I love that little piece and is that last picture milkweed? If so, mine hasn’t gotten to that point yet. I keep it around for the 🦋 but don’t love its look. I am doing some quilting at the end of the week – begininng was focused on returning to Massachusetss and some appointments today. Hope to finish 2 more polaroid blocks and decide on border/sashing/backing…. Also, have a few designs to work on….and a few blog entries. I’ll be plenty busy!
