Round Robin Border 3
It’s Monday, and time to show Round Robin Border 3 for the SAHRR quilt along. Are you sewing with us?
This week’s host is Anja, so be sure to visit her at AnjaQuilts to read her tips about this week’s border – flying geese. Then, when you have your border added, don’t forget to go back and link up.
I started by making some flying geese and auditioning them, using my phone once again to give me a good idea of how they might look.
Here’s one option – I could run them just across the top and bottom:
Or I could place them on the sides:
If I placed the flying geese on the sides, I could use a setting square in the corners. In the end, I opted for the setting squares, but I still wanted to avoid the quilt looking too busy. So I ended up with this. Not a full flying geese border, but that’s okay. I can use them however I like in my quilt (and you can too).
I’m looking forward to seeing what each of you do with the flying geese border. It’s been interesting to see all the different quilts in our group!
Don’t forget to visit the other co-hosts for the SAHRR.

I like your flying geese border with the corner blocks.

I totally like your final. Complemented but did not take over. Great job.

interesting having it like that and not the whole border I like having a little of it open

I REALLY like this version! This is so fun, it’s making me think – lol!

I like your way of using the flying geese, too! They make a fun corner design! I had to audition a lot of ideas last week before settling on what I ended up with. That’s the interesting part of this kind of project. Off to see what the other hosts have done!

Doing the geese this way definitely leaves the quilt looking calmer than putting in a full FG border.
It’s coming together, are you enjoying the process?

Interesting way of adding in flying geese, Wendy! I like it!

I love what you are doing with this and I agree that they can get quite busy. How did we make decisions before phones! It is fun to see how different everyone’s quilts are.

I do like your quilt, Wendy!! I like the partial geese borders and think it adds interest and isn’t as busy as if you used full borders!! I am loving seeing how everyone is making their borders.

Smart choice to minimize the business by using partial geese borders. I have to confess, for some reason I dislike making flying geese blocks. If I were doing this, I would make one or two and fit them in somehow. Heehee.

clever and balanced

Ooh ooh! Love how this round makes it pop! This is so silly of me but sometimes, as much as I love medallion quilts, they can get too busy. The biggest thing I’ve learned from this RR is that you simply don’t have to make each round entirely pieced (and also to insert spacing rows)! I think most sane people see that as obvious but I just never really thought about it. I may not be playing along but I’m definitely learning along! :o)

A clever solution that gives a nice balance to the corners of the quilt. Your quilt is unfolding beautifully

I like it! It’s like a flying geese accent! And the same color progression in each corner is a nice touch.

Hi Wendy! Ooh-la-la! That setting square as the launching off point for those flying geese is magnificent. It give it a whole other look and spices it up quite nicely. Isn’t it just amazing how different our quilts are turning out with the same instruction?! I love this whole process. ~smile~ Roseanne

Wendy love that choice! Waiting for the next round.

Ingenious! I love how we still keep making our projects so different!

I love what you’re doing with this.

I like how you auditioned the placement of the flying geese. I think in the end you made the best choice. I’m enjoying how this project is evolving.

Oh the partial geese borders are just so nice–letting the eye rest on the plain fabrics in between is just perfect, Wendy. I like your color choices (as usual–so warm and cozy)

Oh, clever layout of geese! They look wonderful as corners

Sure wish I’d have joined in on this round robin. Maybe it’s not toto late to catch up?
Kathy Swallows
Sometimes a little bit is enough. Doing just a few at the corners worked really well. Your version of SAHRR is looking great.

Love your flying geese.
