SAHRR 2023 Finish

I have my SAHRR 2023 finish to show you today. Quilting Gail is our host this week, and she is the creator of this fun annual quilt along. Please visit her blog today, see her finished quilt, and get all the details about the parade of SAHRR quilts. Here is the full list of those of us who co-hosted this QAL.

A round robin quilt with a robin in the center and changing borders around it - piecefulthoughts.com

My quilt finished at 52 inches square. The binding is the same fabric line as the green borders (Thatched by Robin Pickens), but just one shade darker. I didn’t have enough of the green border fabric for the binding.

For the back of the quilt, I pieced it using a wide strip of the Grunge fabric down the center of a white print.

Yes, my quilt grew a pair of legs – haha! It was easier to just leave them in rather than try to crop that photo!

Connie did the quilting on my quilt, and as usual, she amazed me. I like to just let her have fun and play, and she always comes up with the perfect quilting ideas.

She added some cute little details to the robin, including a feather on his wing. The little swirls around him make me think of a gentle breeze blowing, don’t you think?

Thread twirling from one spool to the next, a fun beaded design in the green borders, and a geometric design around the spinning star.

More feathers to tie it all together and perfect for that flying geese border. This feather border cocers both the square in a square and flying geese border. The outer final border is the geometric design used for the spinning star.

And with that SAHRR 2023 finish, another Stay at Home Round Robin is in the books for me. Now I’m looking forward to seeing your finishes as you post them this week, so don’t forget that the linky party can be found over at Quilting Gail. You have until the 20th to get your finish posted!

Happy Stitching!

I love your quilt! It is beautifully cohesive, which is not an easy thing to accomplish on this kind of project. The colors are wonderful, and the quilting really finishes it off perfectly!

Wendy this is beautiful. I enjoyed each week seeing your additions. Connie’s quilting was the perfect compliment to your quilt. Great job!

Great finish, Wendy!!! I love the twirling thread that goes from bobbin to bobbin!!

  • Vicki in MN

You and Connie make a great quilt team;) I like how she tied the thread spools together with the quilting. And now you have a robin just in time for spring-it is coming some day!!

What fun this round robin thing seems to be. If I were a quilter, I think I’d enjoy that process. I’m just a sort of – kind of – sometimes person who does a little bit of quilting when the mood strikes… Which it is striking this afternoon when my sister and I give an attempt at some of your improv style! We’ll see how that goes!

I love your finish. Your design is terrific and Connie did work her magic – the thread, the bird details and the feathers going over two borders – just fabulous. Iove the way this turned out – you should be very pleased.

Hey Wendy – this is so pretty! I love how you balanced each round, used the coping strips, and the pretty spring colors. Really lovely!
Please tell Connie her quilting is gorgeous. I am pinning this post so I can look at the quilting for ideas later. I want to practice more and some of these would be fun motifs.

Fabulous finish, the quilt reminds me of a happy spring robin chirping away. Connie did a great job. I am amazed at the circles on the green borders.

  • Rochelle Summers

Congratulations on a beautiful finished quilt. Your quilter does a most excellent job. I love the way the green borders give it a real zing and the binding is quite nice. I’ve enjoyed watching the creation of this quilt through the whole cycle.

Great finish! It looks so much like spring is swirling around that happy bird in the center. And the quilting turned out great, too!

  • Janie Bettis

I have loved your quilt every round! I really like how you used the yellow borders to set off each round. Your little bird is the perfect center. Congratulations! Awesome quilt.

Hi Wendy!! Look how fun and cool this finish is!!! I like the pinwheels with each of their blades a different color. CUTE! Connie did a great job quilting it – my favorite is the thread going from spool to spool. Great job, my friend! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

That’s such a beautiful finish, Wendy! Starting with your bird block in the center and all the fun colors you used throughout the borders, I have really loved your project. Connie’s quilting is the icing on the cake! My SAHRR just needs the binding – hopefully tomorrow!

Hallo Wendy, with your expertise it was 100% clear that it will be a lovely, perfect quilt. And you have a super talented quilter on hand. It is amazing for me wirh which kind of machine she is able to do it? LongArm?
In such a short time.. applaus.
How she quilt the spools is my favorite… but all quilting lines are super anyhow.
The base for good quiltlines is having a quilt in harmony.. and this is your quilt. Great harmony.

Soon soon spring will come now!
The bird is ready to sing and celebrate spring time…

That should be one happy little bird surrounded by all of those fun borders! I love how it all came together! Yay! And Connie–she’s a keeper! You’re right, she did knock it out of the park!

  • knitnkwilt

Nice finish! Your quilter did a great job of enhancing your design. I think the change in shade of binding works well even though I’d thought the quilted needed the same as the border fabric. it coordinates yet varies, and the darker adds a finished feel.

  • Emily

Wow! This is beautiful! I love how consistent it is between the rounds. Your center and spools are probably my absolute favorites from all of quilts. Such fun colorful spools, and I love robin the in the center of the round robin so much! And you are right about Connie’s quilting, it is spectacular and the touches are so fun–my favorite is the winding threads coming off the spools.

  • Kate

Love your finished SAHRR. We both started with birds and similar colors, but each looks so different. I’m hoping there is a next year for this quilt along.
