It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s time to show you my SAHRR Border 2. I’ve really enjoyed stopping in at your blogs and seeing your hourglass borders! There were so many creative ideas and such a variety of center blocks. I think our Stay at Home Round Robin for 2026 is off to a great start!

Kathleen is our host this week, and she has come up with a fun idea for the SAHRR Border 2. Here is Kathleen’s suggestion, but be sure you head over to her post for more tips and encouragement.
Make it a Double!
It is week 2 and I challenge you to use a double block. Here are a few examples:
- Double 4 patch
- Double Irish Chain
- Double Cross
- Double Hour Glass
- Double Pinwheel
- Double Wedding Ring (that would be ambitious)
- Double Wrench
- Double X
- Double Z
Isn’t that a clever idea? While Kathleen shares a few ideas, you are free to come up with a double idea of your own, too. Think out of the box and have some fun. Don’t forget to visit the blogs from the other hosts, too, for more inspiration!
Soeaking of thinking out of the box, with my smaller SAHRR this year, and working with 2-inch blocks, I definitely had to do some pondering for my SAHRR border 2. I had an idea to do an improv double pinwheel, but after a few tries and some very teensy pieces, I decided life is just too short. Haha. So what did I come up with? Take a look.
I decided to make the Double Bar block (okay, I made that name up). I decided improv double bars would fit the prompt and I could easily do them in this small size. Honestly, it was so easy and fun I felt like I was cheating! Once again, the blocks are cut freehand. I did use a ruler to square the blocks before adding them to the quilt. The quilt top is now about 13-1/2 inches I think (forgot to measure).
I added more colors that aren’t in the center block again this week, but it’s such a riot of color it’s difficult to tell. I have to admit, I love seeing this little colorful quilt during these bitterly cold, dreary days here.

Oh, wow! I just love your “double bar” addition, as it continues the theme of a riot of color and pattern. Double Bar works well, both in concept and for your project. I think the added colors work in well with the whole. I’m having difficulty figuring out how to expand the colors in mine.
