SAHRR Border 6
SAHRR Border 6! How did we get to the final border of the 2025 Stay at Home Round Robin so quickly? Does it feel to you like the time flew by, too? I have had so much fun visiting your blogs and seeing your quilts. There is such a variety of quilts between us!
So here’s the schedule, one last time:
- January 13: Center Block Reveal.
- January 20: 1st Round: Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing
- January 27: 2nd Round: Anja @ Anja Quilts
- February 3: 3rd Round: Gail @ Quilting Gail
- February 10: 4th Round: Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts
- February 17: 5th Round: Brenda @ Songbird Designs
- February 24: 6th Round: Emily @ The Darling Dogwood – Link up with Emily this week!
- March 24: Parade: showing all of your finished SAHRRs!
Emily of The Darling Dogwood is our host this week, and she has chosen the Kite Block for our last border. Be sure to visit Emily’s blog for her tips and instructions for this border. Plus, you can see her pretty quilt she’s making this year.
So, the Kite Block. There are a few versions out there, but I didn’t have much success finding one that finishes at 3 inches. So I drafted up my own by the old pencil and paper method. It took a few practice runs to get it just right. I wanted to combine this block with last week’s border, so I only made four Kite Blocks to go in the corners of my quilt.

Since this is the last border, I had a little fun with the coping border, extending it to frame the Kite Blocks. I think it helps those tiny blocks stand out a little more.

And with that, my 2025 SAHRR quilt top is finished. It measures 49 inches square. Today it is going to Connie, my long arm quilter, so she can stitch her magic into the top. I have enjoyed creating this quilt this year. It definitely was not the quilt I thought I was going to make, but I’m very happy with it.
Don’t forget to link up this week, so we can see your Kite Block borders. Remember, when you link up, you have a chance at winning a prize. Here’s the list of sponsors once again, just to remind you of their generosity!

You are quite right to be very happy with the way it turned out. It’s such a happy, bright piece and I am impressed with the clever adaptations you made to fit the blocks into 3 inch borders. A double challenge!

Love how you did your kite blocks in the corners and then set them off with the borders! Looking forward to seeing the quilting magic.

Your kite blocks are perfect for the corners of this quilt, Wendy! I love the look of yours – such pretty color all through it. I’ve never made a kite block before – off to the drawing board to figure them for my quilt!

I do like how you adapted that kite block for use in the corners of the quilt – especially your clever use of an extension setting in the final ‘borders’.

Fabulous kites and I like the extension of the final border….it looks so great. I think we were all a little challenged this year on some of the prompts – good to make our brains work hard!
Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl
Extending the coping border up worked beautifully. I am excited to see how Connie adds to your quilt top – you are a great team. 🙂

It is lovely, Wendy!

Extending the coping border was a great idea! Your whole quilt turned out beautifully. I’ve added Round 4, but am still kind of stuck. Eventually I’ll figure out how I want to add the next rounds.

I like your kite blocks. Everything is well placed and all make such a nice frame for your Grandma’s diamond shapes star! I just love it!

Cute corner finishes, Wendy! How did it come out different than you originally imagined?

It turned out great! To my eyes, it looks three dimensional…like looking down a tunnel. Really love your colors.

I love your tiny kite blocks!! And extending your border to frame the kites was a great choice; I really like how that looks and I agree it frames the kites really well. A bright and colorful quilt top!

When I looked at your quilt on my phone it looked like you were going into a tunnel. I love how you stayed with the yellow coping border.

That turned out great!

This SAHRR is indeed challenging and it is always a lot to learn. Kite blocks are not easy I think and in this small version double challenging! You did a very balaced, interesting and lovely quilt and Conny will do a great job!

It did seem to go so fast, border 6? Already? Your SAHRR is bold and beautiful. That orange and blue is such a fun color combination. Thank you for being part of the SAHRR, it’s not easy to plan for something like this and does take time away from your other projects.

Very pretty, the entire quilt top.

These are pretty kite blocks. I can’t believe we have got to the last round already!
