Shoo Fly Block
The Shoo Fly block is the next block in the Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail quilt along hosted by Melva Loves Scraps. Have you read the next excerpt in Melva’s post? If not, you can find it right here.
One of the things I enjoy about Melva’s posts is remembering our visits to Santa Fe and the experiences we had there. Of course, our experiences aren’t even close to Marian and her brother and mother. It is fun to be able to see the places in my mind as I read.
Whenever we visit Santa Fe, it’s not unusual to stroll by the Governor’s Palace. It’s a museum now, and local artisans often sell their beautiful crafts along the front portico. Reading Marian’s encounter there was such a different picture than what it is now.
I also marveled at the account of Marian’s mother and the strange noises at night. Clearly her mother was a feisty lady.
I chose these particular fabrics for my block because the brown print reminds me of the portico of the Governor’s Palace and the colors in the print remind me of the beautiful crafts sold by the local artisans.
I’m looking forward to the next post from Melva Loves Scraps, aren’t you? Are you quilting along? There’s still time to catch up! You can find all the info over at Melva Loves Scraps!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek at my Shoo Fly Block!

I love that print you used and of course I love the traditional block. I’m always glad for the reminder to go read Melva’s excerpts – they are fascinating. I think I’d like to take the mountain route of the Santa Fe Trail. I bet I’d last at least 30 minutes – lol!

Each Santa Fe trail block you create evokes images and feelings for the desert southwest…the color/fabric choices on this simple block continue with the theme of your quilt.

You definitely captured the essence of New Mexican hand crafted items with your fabric choice. Great block!

Your print fabric looks perfect to represent the view in the top photo! I’ve been enjoying following along even if I’m not sewing along.
