Sidetracked
I got a wee bit sidetracked this weekend and had fun with a couple of little blocks. Yesterday we got our first plowable snow, so I snuck out and took some pictures. Okay, I only walked to the end of our drive to snap pictures of a quilt block, but it was fun to shuffle along in the fluffy snow!
I missed Texas Quilt Gal’s To Do Tuesday link up yesterday, because I was busy taking part in the Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop that is happening this week. I hope you’ve had a chance to read the posts from the blog – there’s some cute quilts, tutorials and yummy recipes! You can find the full schedule here.
Okay, back to catching up with To Do Tuesday. In my last post, my tasks for the week were:
- Finish tote bag – Done!
- Finish 2021 MCC quilt top – Nope!
- Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail quilt top – Nope!
- Bind 2020 MCC quilt – Nope!
Well, the bag was the most important task, so getting that done felt good. You can read about it in my Bag of Blues post. I also have my Coreopsis quilt back from Connie, and I hope to post the reveal of that on Friday (it’s so pretty!!), so I hope you watch for that.
It seems to be a tradition with me to make a gnome or two at this time of year. I don’t know what it is about gnome quilt blocks, but I find them hard to resist. This Gnome Block designed by Carolina Asmussen was so much fun to make. There are two sizes included in this paper foundation pattern. Both sew up quickly and are perfect for those little Christmas-y scraps! She also has been posting free paper foundation Christmas ornaments, so check those out too!
Here’s the large block (6″ x9″ finished):
Here are the two blocks together. The smaller block finishes at 3″ x 4.5″.
I think I might make a few more during the holiday season. They just put me in a holiday mood!
So my to do list for this week is short:
- Bind Coreopsis
- Make another gnome or two
We’ll see if I can keep from getting sidetracked yet again.
What about you.- have you been sidetracked lately?

Lover your gnomes! I think you need a family of them to really get into the Christmas spirit.

Cute gnomes! I think gnomes are “in” this season. I’m seeing them everywhee.
What’s got me sidetracked lately… That’s easy… our fixer-upper house has kept me so sidetracked that I think it’s now my main track!

Those gnomes are so cute! I read Northfield has 6” of snow. Wow! We had at least an inch when the sun was setting and it was still falling. Friday will be interesting because we could get 4-8”.

Aw those gnomes are precious! Love the shadowed beards. I’ll have to check out Carolina; haven’t too much since we both stopped being ambassadors. Glad you allowed yourself to be sidetracked!

Of course you had to do a Gnome or two or three! Will you make a quilt with them, pillows, wall hanging?

Very cute gnomes. They’re doing some cute stuff in the Moda Bake Shop as their countdown to Christmas. It’s very tempting, but I’m passing this year.

I love your gnomes! What fun! One year I participated in a paper-pieced sew along through Instagram to make gnomes, and I had a great time with that. Who cares about to-do lists, really – let’s just play!

Hi Wendy! Aww, those gnomes are so darn cute. I like the one that Joan shared yesterday as well, and it made me think of you immediately! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I like the wonky nature of the gnome blocks. I hope the snow makes it cozy to be inside quilting!

Your gnome is adorable. Thanks for the heads up about where you bought it. I’m contemplating what I would do with a cute gnome like that. I love your “To Do” list this week. You’ve pared it back and hopefully will get it done with no problem!
