Spin Class Fun

Spin Class with Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts happened, finally! After postponing due to the unexpected massive snowstorm on the original date of the class, we finally met on Saturday. What a fun day it was.

Amanda is such a sweet person. She is just delightful and engaging. Spin Class is playing with scraps and learning how to put a spin on them to make your quilt sing. One thing I particularly enjoyed about the class was the time given to just sewing with your scraps. In other classes I’ve taken, we’ve had to stop working and go to the front for tutorials, which is fine but really distracts from the actual sewing time.  So I enjoyed the time to sew, while Amanda came to each station and chatted with each person about her project. Throughout the day, she stayed connected with each one of us. It was relaxing and fun.

Spin Class Scraps

Are those chickens cute? I didn’t use them in my quilt, but I did sneak a few little pieces of them for my stash. I couldn’t resist! This scrap stash was created from scraps brought from some of the students, so it was fun to see the variety of fabrics!

From Scraps to Blocks

So let’s take a peek at a few of the projects.

There were these neat, tidy blocks that Mandy made.

Aren’t they fun? I really like the mix of textures and color in the blocks!

Then there was the fun scrap stash of my good friend, Connie.

Her scraps were so colorful and fun, and she had quite a pile of them sewn together by the end of class.

Me? There was my neat, tidy sewing area, Somewhere under those scrappy strips on the table are my glasses. I think.

I did have a method to my mess, though, and by the end of class, I had quite a few blocks made.

Those strip piles will eventually be cut into offset squares to create an improv type quilt. I’m using the Slopes pattern from Amanda’s book, No Scrap Left Behind.

It was a great day to sew and visit with friends. I’m hoping to get back to work on the strips soon (I need to make about 90-some yet). But this week I need to finish my project for Wednesday’s post.

Art With Fabric Blog Hop

Alida of Tweety Loves Quilting is once again hosting the Art with Fabric Blog Hop this year. This is my first year taking part in the hop, and I’m really excited to show you my project.  Each of us chooses an artist and creates a quilt based on that artist’s work.

Spin Class Fun - Art with Fabric Blog Hop starts this week - piecefulthoughts.com

You can read more about the blog hop over at Tweety Loves Quilting, but since the hop begins today, here’s the schedule for you. Hop on over to the posts for today and see what the talented bloggers have created! Come back and visit me on Wednesday to see my project!
