Stitching Up a Quiet Book
I recently had some fun stitching up a quiet book. I found the panel at a local quilt shop. It was so cute, and I realized it would be the perfect gifts for two littles celebrating their birthdays. I hadn’t ever sewn a quiet book, but this one was easy to do.

The Animals in My Barn quiet book is from the Farmstead fabric line by Stacy Iest Hsu. This is a cut and sew panel, and sewing instructions are included right on the panel. The pages are stabilized using fusible fleece, the doors using Pellon SF101. It was so much fun to put this together.
Here are a few of the pages.

Tucked behind the cow are three finger puppets. The fence is a handy pocket for corraling the cow or storing the pieces when the book is put away.

There are doors to be opened to see who’s hiding. Not always a chicken!

How many pigs are hiding in the hay – a chance to practice counting, too.

And you can’t have a barn without a horse, right? Another fun pocket for corraling that horse, or keeping him safe while the book is stored.

Since it was my first quiet book, it took me a little longer to put together. Cutting the pieces from the panel probably took the longest amount of time. I didn’t pay attention to how much fusible fleece the pattern called for, but it didn’t take alot. So little SF101 was used, it was a great way to use up scraps that I had left over from making bags. Stitching through the thickness for each page and then constructing the book was easily done without any need for special sewing feet. Matching up the pieces when sewing them together was easy, too – it’s all well marked on the panel.
Stitching up a quiet book was a fun diversion for a day or two – a nice break from my other quilting projects. The book was well received, and I hope it gets many years of play!

That is adorable. Makes me wish I had some littles to sew for.
