Swap Mini Quilts
I haven’t shown you the mini quilts my swap partner and I exchanged this year. This was my first year participating in the Modern Quilt Guild Mini Quilt Swap. There were 466 participants from 11 countries. Many of the participants met to swap their quilts at QuiltCon this weekend. My swap partner and I chose to exchange our mini quilts by mail.
I’ll start with the mini I made for my swap partner. Our mini quilts were to be no larger than 24″ square. My quilt was just shy of that. It is a little improv piece that I came up with, so no patterns, just going with the flow.
Not surprisingly, this little quilt took many design change journeys along the way. I named it “Isoscies in the Fog” for the Moda Grunge Fog background and the isosceles triangles. And because the day I was sewing it all together, my view outside looked exactly like that background, which made me chuckle a bit.
My swap partner was very gracious, happy to receive it, and said she liked the mini. Phew!
Now, take a look at the beauty she sent to me.
Isn’t that just fun? It’s so jubilant and celebratory! I love it. I will hang it in my guest bedroom because it is always a celebration when friends come to visit.
So there you have it — make a mini, make a friend. If you haven’t participated in the mini swap, you should consider it next year. It’s really quite fun, and you meet new quilty friends!
Thank you again, Evelyn, for the beautiful mini!
Happy Monday, my quilting friends! Enjoy your day!

Your Isosceles. The Fog is spectacular. I think Fog is my favourite grunge shade. And OMGOODNESS the one you received looks like it’s jumping up and down with excitement. Inlove Make a MiniMakeaFriend. I’ll post the ones shared with my new friend Michaelann this week,

I like your Isosceles mini you made and that grunge background a great choice. The mini you received is sure to make any one feel welcome.

Hi Wendy! Both these minis are wonderful, but I am especially drawn to the one you made. Believe it or not, I don’t think I have any Grunge Fog fabric. I may have to remedy that soon. Your colorful improv triangles are so much fun. Thanks so much for your continued inspiration. Have a great day, Mary.

Wow! Two beautiful, modern minis! I love them both, but especially how you sliced and diced your triangles. So cool!

I love the idea of the idea of “improv” and “go with the flow.” I wonder, though… is it fun, comfortable, and relaxing? Or is it an exercise to keep type-A tendencies at bay?

Both of these are wonderful and I love that you both used triangles. I also love the name you gave yours!
Linda

I love a good triangle. The fog is perfect. The mini you received is so bright and springy. Does it not have binding? Can we see a closer look at the edge?
piecefulwendy
It has a faced binding. I’ll take a photo and post soon!

Hi Wendy! Both minis are great and I love the name you chose for your piece. Your triangles are striking and I’ll bet they were fun to work with/on. I don’t know that I’m brave enough to make a modern mini for someone else . . . ~smile~ Roseanne

That looks like a fun swap! Was there a triangle theme to the swap or did you both just coincidently include triangles? I really like the Grunge Fog, too – I’ll have to look for some of that next time I’m at my favorite LQS that sells Grunge!
Gail
