Pieceful Life

Thankful Thursday

It’s Thankful Thursday here at Pieceful Thoughts. I’ll be joining LeeAnna and the others listed over at Not Afraid of Color, as we share our weekly likes and things that remind us to be grateful.

I like late afternoon sun and shadows as it plays across the furniture. The photo above was taken on a lazy afternoon at our casa rental in New Mexico.

I like the clouds in this photo of the Rosario Chapel in Santa Fe. I didn’t notice them until I looked at the photo later in the day.

Nothing Daunted by Dorothy Wickenden, a fascinating historical account about the history of Colorado - piecefulthoughts.com
No Life for a Lady by Agnes Mosley Cleaveland, the author's stories of growing up in the Wild West - piecefulthoughts.com

I’m thankful for the joy of reading. We read books on road trips. I read as BigJ drives. We read Nothing Daunted by Dorothy Wickenden and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is the true story of two society girls who give up society life to teach in the wilds of Colorado, particularly the area surrounding Steamboat Springs. A worthwhile read if you enjoy the history of the westward expansion United States.

The other book, No Life for a Lady by Agnes Morley Cleaveland is the author’s account of growing up in the wild country of New Mexico. We’re about halfway through this book and have enjoyed hearing her stories of exploring and living off the land, riding horses, roping cattle, and other stories of pioneer life.

The Weekly Wilbs

The Weekly Wilbs - piecefulthoughts.com

Can’t end this Thankful Thursday post without The Weekly Wilbs. While I was gone, Wilbs made sure he was a big help around the house. Here he is, doing some quality control, just to be sure whatever our daughter brought home in that bag is acceptable.

And that’s my Thankful Thursday post, my friends! Thanks for reading!

OH that Wilbs is funny! He reminds of one of my grandchildren who can’t wait to see what grandma brought them.

Some lovely photos! I don’t read while we drive, it makes my tummy queasy, but we do listen to audio books. It does make a road trip enjoyable. Sometimes, there is just nothing to look at.

That photo of the mission with the blue, blue sky and clouds is fantastic. I loved Nothing Daunted when I read it a few years back. Have you read “These Is My Words, the Diary of Sarah”? A very good book. Every the curious cat, Wilbs is a great way to end the post.

New Mexico has an aura all its own….especially the northern part of the state. There is a calm that is hard to describe. We had a place in Albuquerque for several years, and trips to the north through the state were always a treat. Oh that Wills! Love him!

Hi Wendy! Oh Wilbs! Great job on the quality inspection . . . and that bag may have contained food or something that needed to be otherwise handled. Both of those books look good . . . I can’t even imagine giving up high society to go into the wilds of Colorado. WOW! It sounds like you two make the best use of time while driving/riding and it’s a good thing that reading doesn’t make you car sick. {{Hugs}} Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne

What a lovely trip and so nice that you read books together when driving. Love the QC engineer. I’m sure he kept an eye on things!

I sure wish I could read in the car. No possible way. Sometimes I can get away with briefly looking at my phone but that is about it. I put both books on my To-Read List!! Thanks for the recommendations.

I’m sure Wilbs was just scouting out the bag as a possible cozy place to curl up. Looks like your trip was very enjoyable.
