Thursday at Pieceful Thoughts
It’s Thursday at Pieceful Thoughts, and I’m late joining in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and the others who post their I Like Thursday posts. I wasn’t going to post today, thinking I didn’t have anything to post about, but this morning I decided to post anyway.
If you were to ask me how many little mini quilts I have, I would tell you I haven’t the faintest clue. They are scattered throughout the house. Some are on my mini quilt wall in my quilt room, some are tucked on the shelf of my side table by my chair. Others, like these, are tucked into a basket for a pop of color amidst all of our books.
We gave this game to our son awhile ago, and we played it over Thanksgiving. It was more fun than we anticipated, with pretty challenging questions. While each of us was one team, this would be great fun for multiple players.
Ages and ages ago, I used to cross stitch, so I decided to see if I remembered how. This is the Kaleidoscope pattern by Lori Holt. The book has both a quilt pattern and cross-stitch pattern included. It’s amusing me in the evenings while I spend time with Miss Marple as she solves yet another murder.
I enjoy having these little book darts handle while I’m reading, for marking those paragraphs or sentences that need more thought, or that I want to share with someone.
I recently finished this book, and found myself wishing I had read it with a group. So many thought provoking passages on aging, family secrets, and our personalities and loves.
The Weekly Wilbs
And what does Wilbs think of all this? He doesn’t – ha! Those rays of sunshine just couldn’t be resisted for a lovely afternoon snooze. He looked so comfy, I just let him be.
And that’s Thursday at Pieceful Thoughts, my friends! Not much happening here, but we’re enjoying ourselves, just the same. Pop over to Not Afraid of Color for a list of the others who are blogging today.

I like the book darts. We used to use them in law offices to indicate signature lines. I saw a tutorial online for fabric corner bookmarks. I was thinking I’d make some, and then I thought…nah.

Beautiful way to store those mini quilts. Before book darts there were those colored tabs you could use to mark important places in a document you were reading or pages that needed signatures. I like those book darts more, I think. It is nice to see counted cross stitch. I used to do it as well as regular embroidery. For Thanksgiving, it was scrabble. A challenge for those who don’t spell as well. With spell check, I guess they don’t need to learn to spell anymore.

The book darts are such a good tool and I love the tin they are stored in as well. I hope you have a lovely rest of your Thursday!

Thank you so much for mentioning that book. I love her work and want to get my name on the library list for it. Also those book hook thingies are really neat. I usually stick what ever is handy in the page. I love to see you returned to cross stitch…it is slow compared to quilting but very calming (science has proven that) and perfect for evenings in front of the tv, as long as you have good lighting. A wonderful post, Wendy.

I love your book darts and the quilts in the basket – looks really good in there!

I used to cross stitch all the time. I still have the box of thread, needles, and patterns. I guess I’d still know how. Once that first baby was born, I think I put the lid on the box. That was… hmmm… 34 years ago… I’m pretty sure there’s still a half finished project in there.

I haven’t cross stitched in years either. Not sure I remember how to even start. The book darts are neat.

Love your minis in a basket! Great idea! 🙂

Not sure which pic I like the best Wilbs or your basket of minis. Have fun putting together your color challenge and quilt test blogs from your previous blog. I sure enjoy what you share.

I’m with Wilbs – a nap was in order today! Love your basket of mini quilts – it’s so fun to have quilted things all around the house. I’ll have to check out that game! It’s always fun to have a new one when the kids come home. I love books that you want to talk to someone about! Hope you’ve had a great day, Wendy!

Those book darts look interesting. Ah – to be as comfortable as a cat.

Hi Wendy. Your cross stitch looks like fun. The basket of minis makes me want to pick them up and peek at them. Wilbs had the right idea with his nap in the sun I think. Your book darts look like the perfect way to mark something special. I’ll have to see if I can find some. 😄

Hi Wendy! Cross stitching comes right back to you, doesn’t it? We used to own a CS shop that we had to close in the mid-90s. I haven’t done much stitching since then except for some sport team mascots. Sue has started and is nearly finished with a big Elsa and Anna project from Frozen. Of course, it’s for Addison. Thanks for the Wilbs photo for the week! It is much appreciated. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I love that you thought you weren’t posting and there you found some great things to post about. I love games, my guys not so much, but that one looks interesting. I love the book darts too, so functional yet so cute!

I am so glad you did write this post — it was lovely to have a peak at the delightful things like the basket of mini quilts and those clever book darts (and Wilbur of course). And I am so very excited to see that there is a new Elizabeth Strout title. She is a most remarkable author and is a big favourite with the readers in my book club.
