Time Flies
Time flies as these weeks go by. I had every good intention of posting last week, but time flew by and before I knew it, the week was done. I’m linking up this To Do Tuesday post with Texas Quilt Gal. Each week, we post our weekly project goals, then check back the next week to see how we’ve done. You’re welcome to join us, just jump in anytime.
Here’s my list from my last post two weeks ago:
Start
Challenge Quilt – this is due Nov. 1st – Not started yet!!!
Finish
- QIS Monochrome Challenge – Done
- Bind Plus Playtime, Beothuk, and 2020 MCC – Not done.
Prep
- Red/Tan Quilt back
- Backing for Coreopsis and Let Your Star Shine
- These were completely ignored.
So it doesn’t look like much, eh? Here’s a few things I did get done:
- Made a slipcover for a small piece of foam for a friend who broke her shoulder
- Mended BigJ’s goosedown sleeping bag (Note I did not say I enjoyed it)
- Made a Yellow Brick Road quilt (Teri Atkinson pattern) and added my own twists and turns to the Yellow Brick Road – more on that in another post
- Taught a quilt class
- Made a mini quilt to be gifted
- Helped my daughter with her IKEA furniture construction (we made a good team)
Of the quilty things on the above list, here’s a few photos. The first is my monochrome quilt that I finished for the improv challenge hosted by Quilt Improv Studio. I did post a photo on Instagram, and you can read a few of my thoughts on construction at Quilt Improv Studio.
The Monochrome Dreams challenge will end on October 18th. The challenges are open to anyone who enjoys improv. After the 18th, another challenge will be posted in a few weeks. If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to join in. Follow @quiltimprovstudio on Instagram for more information, or go to the link (above).
This quick little mini was gifted this weekend. I played around with some scraps and had a little fun. It measures 11″ x 21″.
The colors are more true in this next photo, and I thought you’d like a peek at the back. I quilted it with straight line quilting spaced 1″ apart. The Drunkard’s Path blocks are made with templates from Jen Carlton Bailly’s set, and the design is her Turbine pattern.
Here is the finished Hole in the Sky quilt. In my last post, I hadn’t finished sewing down the binding, so I thought you might like to see it finished.
This week’s to do list is pretty simple:
The challenge quilt.
Of course I have other projects, too, but time flies and the challenge quilt needs to be started this week.

You might have taken a slight detour from your ‘to do’ list but you still got quite a bit accomplished! Your little gifted runner is adorable. And your challenge piece is so pretty in blue.

Ah yes time can fly by You have a couple very lovely finishes and putting Ikea furniture together can be time consuming in itself.

love your hole in the sky quilt – beautiful. I do not envy you putting furniture together – not my favorite thing to do

Hi Wendy! Your improv pieces are lovely, and I think you really enjoy the whole process of improv. At least it seems so and it shows in your work. I ADORE the monochrome project! So very cool. November 1st will be here before you know it and then it’s less than 8 weeks until Christmas. EEK! Happy Tuesday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

I think you must be very disciplined to spend time quilting every day to be so productive. Do you have a set time you “get to it” every day?
The Joyful Quilter
LOVE that improv challenge quilt, Wendy!! I’m especially fond of how you rounded the corners of the design (without rounding the corners of the quilt.)
The Morning Latte
Hey, to-do lists are really more like guidelines, right? Esp in the sewing room. I love all the projects–and that backing (thank you for the peek) is just perfect for it. Lovely quilting on all three as well! Time certainly does fly! Holy moley, does it! I don’t think things will slow down here till after Christmas!

Remember to get the coffee while you are creating, your sure are busy now. Where is Wilbs hiding?

You did get quite a bit done. Sometimes our lists get diverted don’t they. I spent a few hours with John (son) yesterday helping him organize a bit more in his apartment. He is getting there. On the road to Maine later today, to finish one quilt and really plan two more. One for Nov. 1 deadline and one for Jan. 1 deadline (personal).
Rochelle Summers
Those deadlines have a way of creeping up on me. I think you had a very productive two weeks. Nothing says all of our finishes have to be in the quilting arena. Spending time with a daughter and helping her with IKEA furniture is a bonus. All the visiting that gets done is so special. Each of your quilt projects are beautiful. I love the blue monochrome and the Hole in the Sky Quilt. The little runner is beautiful with the touch of blue. I just pulled out my Yellow Brick Road pattern Sunday afternoon to use with a pack of fat quarters!

Sounds like you had a busy and productive week. Of course I really like the monochrome challenge quilt (yay blue) and I hope you have a good time working on the challenge quilt this week.

So many great things in this post, Wendy! Who cares if you didn’t get everything from your last list accomplished?! How did teaching the class go? I love the green mini – what a nice gift! I’ll enjoy seeing your take on the Yellow Brick Road pattern. I’ve made a bunch of those – my favorite was the one for my son, which is when I discovered Grunge. 🙂

Happens to me all the time. . .I did laugh out loud at “these were completely ignored.” I can relate! Good luck finishing up your challenge quilt.
Quilting is in my Blood
All of these minis are great and I’m especially partial to Hole in the Sky. It’s one of my all time favorite minis ever!

This made me laugh out loud; “These were completely ignored” 😀
I love both your improv (the blue!) and the pretty mini, and I could look at Hole In The Sky all day. Just beautiful.
Have I mentioned how it makes me laugh every time I see “You’ve Goat This”?
Thanks for linking with To Do Tuesday!

Wow! You did have another great week. That improv piece is stunningly beautiful! Hole in the Sky still keeps me stopped in my tracks to admire it.

You make me feel quite breathless with all you have accomplished this week. Well done Wendy!
