Tiny Tree Pillow
I made a Tiny Tree pillow with my little tree from the Temecula Quilt Company Tiny Tree sew along. Eleven little blocks, 2-3/4″ (unfinished), sewn into a cute little tree. Here’s how it looked before I made it into a pillow.
I added some additional background strips to make it 18.5″, basted it to a scrap piece of batting, and quilted it using Aurifil Spring Green (#1231). Here’s a peek at the back so you can see how I quilted the tree.
And the view from the front.
After the tree and trunk were finished, I outlined the tree with straight stitches using Aurifil white (#2024) and my walking foot. Of course, I forgot to take a photo of that while I was working on it. Maybe you can see it from this angle on the finished pillow.
My tree top didn’t come to a point, so for a fun little pop of color, I added a button from my grandmother’s button box.
I used the background fabric to make an envelope back for the pillow. I used my favorite pillow insert from IKEA, my last one, so I foresee an IKEA run soon! It is a 20″ pillow insert and I use for 18″ pillows. The key is not to fluff the pillow until you have it fully inserted. It fills out the pillow so nicely. This nifty tip came from Tracie over at Riceford Streams.
Nestled together with my Holiday Pillow, I think it looks pretty festive, don’t you?
What’s Up Next?
Christmas is almost here – do you have all of your projects finished? I have had so much fun just playing in my quilt room this month. My next project I hope to finish is this quilt.
I was delighted to test this pattern for Carole Lyles Shaw, and she will be releasing this pattern in her shop this week. Watch for it! This is a great pattern if you’ve always wanted to try improv, but want a little guidance. It will allow you to play a little while still using some traditional quilting skills. I hope you visit Carole’s blog for more information. I’ll catch you up on my progress as I work on this.
Happy Monday, my friends! My daughter is coming home tomorrow (yippee!) so we’ll see how much quilting I get done this week! The decorating still needs to be done – she wanted me to wait so she could help, and I’m all for that!

This is a sweet little pillow and looks perfect nestled in on the couch for the holidays. I can’t wait to see the quilt top. I to this day struggle with improv quilts. Happy decorating to you and your daughter.

Hi Wendy! What a great tree and an even better pillow. It’s nice that you got this project completed so quickly. Otherwise it would have been a bunch of unused blocks just waiting for a home. Have fun with your daughter this week! I know you will have a blast, and how fun that she wanted you to wait for the decorating. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

This is adorable! So cute! I really like the button on top. I also love Ikea pillows, though I avoid Ikea from Thanksgiving until after Christmas 🙂
