To Do Tuesday #1

I’m mixing it up a bit in 2020 and joining in the To Do Tuesday linky party hosted each week by Home Sewn by Us. I’ve given some thought to how my year will play out as far as my blog, and I’ve decided to shift my schedule. From now on, I’ll be posting on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday/Saturday. I think that will work a bit better for my sewing schedule. But who knows? I might toss in a Pieceful Monday every now and then!

Over the holiday season, I was on a different type of creative streak. While my daughter was home, we made cookies, a 6″ three-tier cake, polymer clay bowls and gnomes, two crocheted cowls, a quick zippy pouch, and four bandana/first aid slings. There was not much quilting going on, so I need to do some catching up!

So let’s talk about my goals for this coming week.

Goal 1 – MQG Swap Mini

Finish my Modern Quilt Guild swap mini – pronto!

To Do Tuesday #1 - My fabric pull for my 2020 Modern Quilt Guild swap mini - piecefulthoughts.com

I have a few blocks made, but I can’t show you anything until my swap partner receives her mini. I can show you the fabrics I’m currently playing with. So far, so good, but I really need to stay on task with this one. It needs to be on its way to her by mid-February.

Goal 2 – Churn Dash Personal Block of the Month

A quilting friend and I are doing a little block of the month together using churn dash blocks. It’s more of a fun quilt along, encourage-a-long. We are each choosing our own churn dash pattern, and will hold each other accountable through the year. I think she has settled on her pattern. I, on the other hand, am still playing with ideas and somewhat undecided. There are so many fun churn dash quilt ideas out there! Here’s a sketch I drew up the other day, and I might go with this idea (not necessarily the colors).

If you follow me on Instagram (@piecefulwendy), you’ve likely seen this photo. I’ve been playing along with The Quilter’s Planner and the Best Year Ever Photo Challenge. I love the planner for these planning pages where I can sketch out ideas and make notes.

This will be an ongoing project throughout the year. My goal for this week is to decide on a pattern, and make my monthly plan.

Goal 3 – Awesome Ocean Blocks

I’m sewing along with Kathleen McMusing and her Awesome Ocean SAL, and I will be a guest host later in February. The last block I finished with this little puffer fish. These blocks are such fun to make!

I know you’ve seen him before in this post, but I can’t resist putting him here. He needs a buddy, so one of my goals is to get the second block sewn along with the next two block sets that need to be done.

Goal 4 – 2019 Color Challenge Quilt Top

While I don’t know if I’ll get this one done in time for the link up on the 15th, I think it’s doubtful. I’m adding it in my list to keep it in mind. Here are my blocks once again.

The fabrics for the sashing in my stash; I just need to get things cut and sewn.

Jen is hosting again this year with her 2020 Color Challenge, and I’m joining in. I’ll be one of the Color Challenge Bloggers, so watch for that later this year. Even better, join us!

I am feeling pretty good about my goals for this week. We’ll see how much I get done now that the holiday season is over. I’m hoping over to link up with Home Sewn by Us. Come join in!

I love that churn dash design with all the different sizes and aspect ratios! That will be a fun quilt. I joined the Color Challenge, too, and decided to do all scrappy white-based backgrounds 🙂

Hi Wendy! Well, this is so fun!! Thank you for linking up this week. I love having friends join in . . . and those mini quilt fabrics. I want to reach right through the computer screen and snag them. I’d give them back though – I just want to touch them and see them in person. Love the churn dash idea and drawing – maybe other friends want to play along and join in?! Just sayin – maybe. ~smile~ I love your little fishie – he is cute and a little lonely so I’m glad you’re going to make him a buddy. Finally, I’m dying to see what sashing you’re going to us on your color blocks. Here’s to a productive week. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your churn dash sew along with a friend sounds like fun, and I enjoyed seeing your sketch of different sizes and shapes of blocks. Isn’t your puffer fish cute and bright?! He definitely needs a buddy! I made my yellow January block for the Color Challenge! Just waiting for the perfect time to share it. Have a great day, Wendy!

This is a week’s worth of goals? Hmmm…. your week must be much longer than mine. Haha. I would likely finish one or two of those items. Love the pull for your swap mini. Your partner is a lucky one!

The churn dash idea is wonderful, I love that block and will be interested to see what you finally come up with. I have ordered a planner (Lori Holt) because its not date linked, but I did look at the Quilter’s Planner. Maybe another year!

Sounds like you had a very productive crafty start to the year with your daughter! What are the bandana first aid slings? Sounds intriguing. Good luck with all your quilty goals for the month!
