To Do Tuesday #10

To Do Tuesday #10 – is it a perfect 10? Well, no, but it has been a good week. Let’s take a look.

To Do Tuesday is a linky party hosted by my quilting friend, Roseanne. Each week, we give ourselves a to do list and then see how well we do. It’s a fun way to stay on task and encourage one another. You can jump in any time, so feel free to join us. Roseanne has all the details over at Home Sewn by Us

Last week, my list was to bind two quilts and put the borders on another. How did I do? I got one quilt bound, my Squiggles quilt. You can see that here

The other two tasks didn’t get done, because I got distracted on another project. It was one of those drop everything and make it projects, and I’m enjoying it immensely.

Inspiring Improv by Nicholas Ball, one of my favorite improv quilt books - piecefulthoughts.com

Those green strips behind the Inspiring Improv book are my current obsession. Remember my improv triangles? They came from this book too. I can’t wait to show you where these green stripes are taking me.

To Do This Week

I’m purposely keeping my quilt projects simple these days. If I want to play with something in particular, I allow myself to do it. It feels more relaxed and comforting for me. Sometimes I get too focused on having to finish something because I said I would. Most of the time that’s helpful, but right now, if it feels stressful, I let it go.

So for my To Do Tuesday #10, I’m going to try to finish my list from this past week – attach the borders on the mystery quilt, and get Mt. Hood bound. I’ll also keep going on the improv projects.

How are you keeping yourself relaxed and comforted in your quilting these days? Hope you are all doing well and finding your rhythm!

Wendy

How cute is that binding baby! I really like how you are switching out the photo at the top of each blog post. And your green improv strips are really springy and look like so much fun. I’m glad that you are sewing what is comforting to you. I am too and will share a simple project tomorrow that Mary and I will be working on in April.

I’m also trying to cut myself a lot of slack about getting anything in particular done. I’m making lots of dumb mistakes, like setting my hot iron on my cutting mat. So being present and intentional seems much more important that being productive or finished!

if life starts to really get to me I get outside and take a walk around the property – 3 times around gives me 10 active minutes and then sometimes I’m ready to look the quilting room or whatever differently and start over

I like this! Finding your rhythm for these unusual days we are experiencing. And being gentle and patient with ourselves.
We are enjoying the walks outside, being more intentional with meals, and listening to encouraging podcasts!!

Those green strips underneath the book are intriguing! I may have to get myself a copy of the improv book to play with. I agree – work on what interests you and what feels relaxing and comforting!

What a fun binding. Keeping it simple is a good idea right now. I’m doing the same, although the project I started yesterday had me putting on my thinking cap. Had to sew it together wrong before I could figure out how to sew it together right.

Hi Wendy! Love that new photo with that gorgeous striped fabric for binding. Oooh-la-la! Pretty green strips and not a hint of orange in sight. Hmm. Can’t wait to see where this improv project takes you and us! I say we should all be kind to ourselves, and I’m starting to think about the BIG party we’re going to throw when this is all behind us. BIG! Thanks so much for linking up this week and stay safe. ~smile~ Roseanne

Those green strips are going to be fun! I am giving myself permission to play, too, but I am afraid of it being a hot mess. It is a stressful time so we need to do what gives us joy – sometimes it is to play and sometimes it is to finish. Good for you for creating your joy!

I’m looking forward to seeing what the green stripes become. I haven’t done any improv quilting but I definitely want to make an Improv Triangles Quilt someday.
