To Do Tuesday #18

To Do Tuesday #18 has snuck up on me! This past week apparently flew by, although it didn’t feel like it. Here’s what I had on my list:

  • Finish improv, possibly – Top is done!
  • Finish 2019 Monthly Color Challenge top – Not Done
  • Start test pattern – in progress

To Do Tuesday #18 - The trimmings from my latest improv project - piecefulthoughts.com

How about a little stash of trimmings to tease you a bit? That is the trimmings from my improv project. I’m both excited and hesitant to show the quilt. The top is done, but not the quilting; I’m still deciding whether to show the progress photo (quilt top) or the finished quilt.

I’ve changed my direction on the 2019 Monthly Color Challenge quilt, so I need to get that together. It should go quickly once I get to it. I’m just waiting while I get some other immediate projects done.

My main goal for the test quilt this week was to decide on colors I want to use. That’s done; now I need to shop my stash and see if I have fabric that will work. Do you use coloring sheets provided by quilt patterns? I enjoy them; it’s a favorite thing for me to do while watching a show if I don’t have handwork.

So what’s up for this week?

  • Make a shower gift ASAP
  • Fabric Pull for Test Quilt
  • 2019 Monthly Color Challenge top

I’m linking up To Do Tuesday #18 with Roseanne and Sue from Home Sewn by Us. I appreciate the encouragement Roseanne always gives each week, and I’m grateful that they keep this linky party going!

What about you? How has your week been?

You are teasing us again! If you need encouragement to show us, yes please, I definitely like the colors. As to coloring sheets, although I loved coloring as a youngster and doodled even into my 20s, I seem to be inhibited now. I probably need more practice, because I think it’s a great tool.

I think you need to show us so you stop worrying about it, LOL You know I always love seeing your improv designs, others do too. How big will the test quilt be? Have a good week.

love all the colors – I can’t keep track of the dates anymore either and then it was a holiday weekend and even though a lot of us did nothing differently it can still through you off keeping track of what day it is !

I always look forward to seeing whatever you’re working on! I’m also curious about how you’re finishing your 2019 color challenge quilt. I can see that my (very colorful!) 2020 blocks are going to need something – probably sashing and border – to connect them.

interesting that you want to keep it under the radar til done… intriguing… when I first joined a quilting group in Annapolis, I remember being very excited about a quilt and having the others tell me why it wasn’t right… too yellow! Repro feedsack fabrics not “me”! Too fussy!
I still love that quilt, and it traveled to exhibits, won so many prizes. I learned how to not listen to random opinions while a piece was in progress, if I had a vision for it.

Good morning, Wendy! Oooh, that pile of fabrics for the improv quilt is interesting. I love all the colors and tones together plus I see a few patterned fabrics in there, too. Your journal photo at the top of the post looks fun, too. I love journals and date books and all things paper like that. Good luck with your list this week. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make for the ASAP shower gift! Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

The pile of fabrics is awesome and I love seeing the teases! What do you think you want to make for a shower gift? I love the little 1 yard blankets I do – receiving blankets – one yard flannel and one yard cotton, sew around, turn inside out! Of course, there are so many bibs,etc….. Have fun deciding! Of course, this may be a wedding shower…then I would do a quick set of placemats or napkins.

Well if you don’t “show” me the top, I cannot “comment” about it now. Can I?
So this is me not leaving a comment – insert raspberry here.

The time is flying by. You are keeping things moving though. I do like those little trimmings!!!!!

  • quiltinggail

Aw … show us your progress Improv and then we can be totally amazed when you show us the quilted version! Looking forward to see the top! quilted or not!

  • Quilting is in my Blood

Hi Wendy, I could have sworn I commented on this blog post but apparently not. Your stash trimmings are scrumptious! I’m really looking forward to seeing this improv project, quilted or not. I rarely use coloring sheets. What do you use to color them with? I haven’t had much luck with being able to erase coloring with coloring pencils, but maybe if I used a better brand, that would help. Take care, Mary.

Congrats on getting one quilt top finished and on making progress with your other to do list items. Hope this week has been as productive.
