To Do Tuesday 36
To Do Tuesday 36 has Wilbs completely worn out, or bored? Actually, he has a serious thing for that blanket. I think I could paint his toenails and he wouldn’t wake up – ha!
I’m linking up with Roseanne and Sue over at Home Sewn By Us once again this week, to see if I can keep myself on task. This week, once again, my task will be continuing to construct my Gypsy Wife (or GW) quilt. You can see last week’s progress here. It is definitely slow going, and I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock. Here’s where I’m at so far.
This is the sum total of the first five sections of the quilt. I’m halfway done. Section 6 is a bit of a puzzle, with partial seams and multiple sized blocks and strips. I’m’ at a point where I need to attach another strip set to another set of blocks, but something isn’t right because that strip set is then going to be too long to attach to the other strip set. See my dilemma? So I’m going to have to do some re-checking and likely some ripping (yet again) and see if I can figure it out. To be truthful, I’m actually enjoying the process. However, it takes more time than it normally would take to piece a top. I’ve been preparing for this construction phase though and reading several blogs as well as watching the conversation on the Facebook group. Plus, I have Connie, Sally and all of you cheering me on. I am looking forward to having the finish, so I can see all the blocks playing with the fun background strips. Even BigJ likes the Libs Elliott prints – who knew??
That is going to keep me busy this week, along with moving our daughter home this weekend. I have been cleaning and clearing closets to make some space for her temporary stay. (Wilbs thinks closet cleaning is such fun – so many places to explore! Helpful? Not.)
My only other goal for this week is to bind a small quilt. I’ll be posting about that on Friday, and you’ll want to see this one. It’s a quick pattern that will be perfect for holiday gift-giving.
Oh, and stop back tomorrow – it’s my day to post for the From The Heart Blog Hop, and I have a fun little project to share – one of my favorite gifts to give.
I hope this To Do Tuesday 36 post finds you happy, healthy, and stitching away!
Wendy

Gypsy Wife is looking good. In the end it will be worth all that puzzling and seam ripping. Looking forward to seeing the two finishes that you mention

GW looks good, good luck and hope you don’t have to rip too much before getting the puzzles pieces to fit.

We all have confidence in you that you will figure out your GW;) So much fun checking out all the fabrics. Will Connie be quilting this for you?

Gypsy Wife is on my quilt bucket list. It’s just so attractive. I love the fabrics you’ve chosen.
Wilbs looks so pettable. 🙂

That is a fun quilt. I hadn’t heard of the Gypsy Wife until just recently. You can try that with Wilbur, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’d hardly call this a road block–you are speeding down the road to the finish line and will be there before you know it!!! Putting that quilt together is definitely a puzzle. You can do it, Wendy!!!

the quilt is certainly taking shape – I would think a lot of thought goes into each block as you come to it

Hi Wendy! Just looking at your photo you would think that a finish would be a snap. However, I recall the Gypsy Wife blocks and the different sizes, etc. I think you are a saint for even starting this project KNOWING what lay ahead. JK! It really is like putting a puzzle together, isn’t it? If you sew this seam part way, and then hold that HST in your right hand while the HRT is in your left hand they all fit together. LOVE IT. We are here cheering you on. You got this. Thanks for linking up and I’m expecting a finish next week. It’s a good way to start off November. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Gypsy Wife sounds like brain teaser of a quilt! But sometimes our brains need that kind of work, don’t they? Good luck figuring out this next section. And moving your daughter home? Wow! It will be work, but I bet you’ll enjoy having her there. Is this an in between jobs move?

I’ve looked at Gypsy Wife a couple of times and thought “too much work!” It is a beautiful pattern and you have such wonderful colors. I know you will have a beautiful top because you will work at finding just the right solution. Wilbs is truly a cat even though he sometimes acts a little human. He knows how to have fun while we slave away. I hope your daughter’s homecoming will be pleasant. Looking forward to tomorrow and Friday!

wilbur has fallen asleep in boredom! Milo says watching the Mama sew it soooooo boring. I heard of yet another family with covid this morning and two at dh’s work have it and they are insisting he returns to check in. A guy jogged past us yesterday on thick icy sidewalks after an 8″ snow…. so how do we stay safe and still get out to walk just a little? day by day I suppose

Wendy GW is truly beautiful. I’m looking forward to seeing your hop project and now you tease us with a fast fun quilt on Friday? Wilbs is definitely enjoying that snuggly blanket 😉

P.S. I forgot to say how cute Wilbur looks sleeping on that blanket. His blanket. He really needs to hold out for a snazzy quilt with that type of backing. AND, I also forgot to say thanks for linking up today! ~smile~ Roseanne

It’s good to work the brain a bit on this type of puzzle! Otherwise we become orange fuzzy lumps on blankets. Oh wait, that sounds pretty good, actually 🙂

Good luck with your dilemma–hopefully it’s not too much to figure it out. Funny cats–they love it when we move things around! Are you working on Christmas gifts already?? I’ll be watching for your next posts!

That quilt is going to be amazing Wendy. I wonder how many hours will go into the finished piece? Lots for sure. Your daughter is coming home for a bit? Hope all is well. 🙂

Wow, this looks great! I’m sorry it’s been frustrating with lots of ripping but it’s going to be a stunner!

It is looking great. I can see how you could become obsessed with finishing as you are so close.
Quilting is in my Blood
I’m glad you’re enjoying the process of figuring out the Gypsy Wife quilt. It definitely looks puzzling! One of our cats is adept at opening my closet doors and sometimes likes to go inside the closet. Just another version of hide-and-go-seek!
