To Do Tuesday 39
It’s Tuesday, so I’m popping in with my To Do Tuesday 39 post, and linking up with Roseanne and Sue over at Home Sewn by Us. Roseanne does a great job of encouraging me to make a list for the week and try to stick to it. As you can see, Wilbs does his share too – although I’m not sure if he’s a help or a hindrance. In this case, he was making sure those churn dash blocks didn’t escape the bin while I was making a few more. Before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a look at my list from last week and see how I did.
Here’s last week’s list:
- Block of the Month blocks
- Pepin Tote QAL
- Pincushion
- Clean Quilt Room
Block of the Month Blocks
I made some progress on my blocks this week. I finished my 2020 Monthly Color Challenge block, and you can see and read about that block here. You’ll want to check out the bird that inspired the block if you haven’t – you can find that information in my post.
While Wilbs was roosting in the churn dash bin, I was making the October blocks.
I’m adding some little 3.5″ churn dash blocks to the mix now – they look so tiny next to the 9.5″ x 12.5″ block! These are the blocks for October; I’ll be working on the November blocks today.
Pepin Tote SAL
This is a sew along being hosted by Anna of Noodlehead. You can see the tote on Noodlehead’s site right here. She is hosting the sew along through her newsletter, so if you are interested in joining in (it’s still early, so you have time), subscribe to her newsletter to join in.
I’m a bit behind on my tote, since I needed to order some additional interfacing. So no sewing on it yet for me, but I’ll catch up soon.
Pincushion
The pincushion is finished and needs to be mailed. I’ll have to show it to you after it arrives at its destination, since I’m not sure if the recipient reads my blog or not. I had fun with a little improv, which lead to another project which you’ll be seeing soon.
Quilt Room Clean Up
I was making pretty good progress on this until I got to the end of cleaning up my scraps. I picked up a bundle of 10 plastic shoeboxes at Target and my scraps are now stored in them. It is so much better than zip baggies! Anyway, as I was organizing scraps, I came across the scraps from previous projects and I just had to play with them. The pincushion was the result of that diversion, as was another project. It was a very satisfying diversion, and I’m happy to say that the scraps did get cleaned up. However, there’s still more to clean up in my sewing space – isn’t that always the case?
Weekend Fun
Of course, in this To Do Tuesday 39 post, I need to confess another diversion. Saturday, on a whim, I decided to sign up for a workshop with Joe Cunningham. It was a Zoom webinar, so it was interactive and fun. The workshop was on using art as inspiration. After discussing that topic a bit, we got busy sewing. Here’s what I came away with.
I think I know where I’m going with this, but we’ll see. I often start out with one idea and end up with something entirely different. The print fabric is an aboriginal fabric from Australia.
If you are interested in the workshops, he has another one coming up in December. You can find more information on his website right here.
So what will I work on this week?
- Continue to catch up on Blocks of the Month
- Blog Hop project for early December
- Union Square blocks
I’m keeping it a bit light this week to give plenty of time to get those blocks of the month caught up.
Lynx Star Pattern
If you are interested in picking of the Lynx Star Pattern from Lucky Penny Quilts, there’s still time to use the discount code for the pattern. You can see my two versions of the quilt and get the code information by clicking here.
Well, my To Do Tuesday 39 post ended up being longer than I anticipated! If you’ve stuck with me this long, thanks! I so appreciate the time you take to read my posts!

Your weekend project looks interesting, can’t wait to see where you are going with it.

Looks like you are making lots of progress! I love the art inspired piece. Can’t wait to see where it goes.

So good of Wilbs to hold down the blocks so they don’t get away on you 😉. Your improv project from Joe Cunningham”’s class looks like too much fun. Can’t wait to see which way you go with it. Have fun with this week’s list.
Quilting is in my Blood
Oh my goodness, I love the project you started from Joe Cunningham’s workshop. I also have some aboriginal fabric that was given to me by my sister and then a few months ago I treated myself to another piece from Fabric & Art thinking I might sew a bear claw baby quilt with them. But after seeing what you’ve created, I may go a different direction! Have a great day, Mary.

Your weekend fun is right up your alley! Glad that Wilbur allowed you to have some fun, he is such a slave driver, haha.

WILBS!!!! How I adore you. That bin is just the purrrfect size for him. Cool, cool, COOL fabrics in your squirrel improv project. I love it that you don’t quite know where you’re headed. The piece will let you know the direction to take! Organized scraps in bins (Wilbur size, I hope) instead of zippie bags is fabulous. And the tote bag is c.u.t.e. Fun projects all. Thanks for linking up – I’ve got blinders on – no squirrel projects for me please. {{Hugs}} Give Wilbs an extra treat for me, please?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Needle and Foot
So many great projects. That is a fun way to do things tho – little of this, little of that! Keeps the sewing room interesting. 🙂

Those pesky churn dash blocks! If Wilbur doesn’t watch them, they might fly away! The tote looks like an interesting project – looking forward to seeing what you make. Cleaning up and sorting scraps always does that to me, too – you just have to start playing!

You’ve had a busy week. Whether you accomplished what was on the list or not (and you did some) you’ve filled the time well. Those Churn Dash blocks will make a beautiful quilt when you finally have all you plan on making and I’m sure Wilbs will be happy to help with the assembly. I love that green and print and, yes, I’m sure you created more scraps. It will be interesting to see where that goes. Have a great week.

Your art piece reminds me of a butterfly’s wings!

Did you, by chance, just finish ironing those blocks that Wilbs isn’t about to get his tookus off of? LOL. Just-ironed things are fair game in my sewing room! I do like those little ones–too fun! Good luck on the to-do’s!

Ooh…you are having a good time. Looking forward to tomorrow’s update.

You have been busy — again. Looking forward to seeing the pincushion and where the art piece take you

The photo of Wilbur in the scrap box started my day off just right. Love the aboriginal print! I made the mistake of clicking on the link to Noodlehead. Now I’m signed up for the bag SAL – it’s so attractive. Whether I do it now or later . . . who knows. Love her new fabrics “coming soon”.

I’m drawn to the green fractured piece! I’m curious though, what art did you use as your inspiration for it?
