To Do Tuesday 53

To Do Tuesday 53 is a true confessions post today. Someone’s been sleeping on the job, and it’s not Wilbs. Okay, truly, I haven’t been sleeping all the time, but I did enjoy a nap in the sun yesterday! I had to stop and think about what I’ve done this week, and it hasn’t been much as far as sewing. Let’s look at my list from last week and see what progress was made.

  • Continue work on improv project – still in progress
  • Finish Project Quilting 12.5 challenge Done! See my finished project here.
  • Clean off my quilting table Done!

I didn’t take photos while I was cleaning my quilting/sewing table, but I did get it organized a bit better. I tend to stack things on my table – patterns that need filing, patterns that I want to make, notes, scraps of fabric. Ultimately I’d like to find a new system so that the space left of my sewing machine doesn’t get cluttered, but I’m still trying to find what would work best in my limited space. So every now and then, I need to clean and organize it. Feels good to have that done.

To Do Tuesday 53 - My latest layout for the black and white challenge hosted by Quilt Improv Studio - piecefulthoughts.com

This is my current layout for the black and white improv. I’m not happy with this one, so I’ll go back to Layout #2 or something close to that, then sew the blocks together. I don’t have to finish this until May, so I’m in no rush.

The lack of sewing has been due to Spring fever, I think. I’ve been cleaning, clearing and organizing. Along with that, our daughter is beginning to look for a place to live, so we spent some time driving around this weekend to see what is available. I’ve also had my nose buried in some books, but more on that in another post.

I thought I’d share some fun things by Molly, our daughter. I gave her a cross stitch kit for Christmas, and she’s hooked. Take a look at her work.

I purchased this kit from Stitch Supply Co. before Christmas. She started on this kit right away and just finished it about a week ago. The colors are so vibrant. It measures about 7 inches from ear to nose.

Molly also had some fun recently, taking a glass blowing class. Look at the pretty flowers she made!

So at least one of us has been in the creative flow lately. I’m glad she enjoys handwork, too. We’ve just finished watching the entire Downton Abbey series and sewing while we watch.

This week I have something new on my to do list. Shelly over at Prairie Moon Quilts is having a quilt panel challenge. You can read about it in her post here. You can jump in and join along if you like, just let her know by leaving a comment. So this week I’ll be choosing one of my panels to work on. I might be considering two!

I’ll also be thinking on my challenge quilt for The Endeavourers, which is due May 1st. It’s time for me to get going on it.

The final Project Quilting challenge will be released on Sunday, so I’ll be working on that, too.

And, of course, I’ll sew the top together for my improv quilt.

I’m linking up my To Do Tuesday 53 post with Chris over at ChrisKnits today. Hop over there to see the rest of the link ups for some creative inspiration.

Happy Stitching!

Wendy

You and I are doing the same thing: organizing. It feels good to get it done! All my patterns are organized and most of my fabric. Molly’s cross stitch and glass flowers are gorgeous! Anticipating a move is a lot of work for both of you.

Molly’s glass flowers are beautiful as well as her cross stitching! I think she takes after her mother.

  • Quilting is in my Blood

Your daughter’s cross-stitch is awesome (is it a fox?) and those hand-blown glass flowers are gorgeous. Creativity and talent definitely run in the family! How wonderful to have that time working on handwork with her watching Downton Abbey. I definitely need some spring cleaning in my sewing space (actually my whole house, lol!). It’ll be fun to see your panel quilt. I like some of eQuilter’s free patterns for panels. Enjoy your day!

Whoa, that beautiful fox! And those glass flowers!! Pretty! Great job, Molly! Wendy, your improv looks perfect just as is. I’m looking forward to seeing your panel projects.

There must be something about spring that makes us want to organize and tidy up. I’m so glad you shared Molly’s work…wow!! I love both the fox and the flowers! I’ve never seen a cross stitch anything like that before. And the glass work is amazing! Go, Molly!

Hi Wendy! Is there a Wilbs in that cute pile of fur?! Ahh. A nap. I don’t dare think about them as I have enough issues sleeping, but a nap in the sun sounds wonderful. So relaxing! Molly does wonderful work in all the projects you’ve shared. Her blown glass is beautiful, as is her cross stitch. I love the design and colors! I’m going to check out that panel challenge – I have a panel or two, I’m certain. ~smile~ Roseanne

An afternoon nap is on my list most days, lol! Some days I get it and some days I don’t! Still loving your improv piece – hope you find a layout you’re happy with. And Molly’s cross-stitch and glass blowing – wow! Kudos to her for giving that glass blowing a try.

Love Molly’s cross stitch and wow glass blowing! OMG, they are just so cool! I hope she gifts you one of them!!!

  • Brenda @ Songbird Designs

Wow, those glass flowers are gorgeous! So is Molly’s cross stitching! Love the design. You did get things done. I’m still writing my post, and had to get some pics before I could finish it this morning! Have fun with your panel challenge! I’m still working on my guild panel challenge from last year which got put on a back burner when Covid hit. But I’ll be working on it soon as we are actually going to have a Zoom show and tell in June if we aren’t able to meet by then.

I like Molly’s projects! How great is it that she enjoys hobbies. And actually finishes them – lol! Love Downton Abbey. Hubs and I were hooked on it till the end and enjoyed the movie too. Thank you for the photo of irresistible Wilbur. 😀

All those photos from Wilbs to the glass flowers are wonderful. Two truly talented women in the family. So nice you had this time with your daughter. You do seem to always have something on the burner…working with panels now. I’ll have to watch the progress as I have limited myself on new projects until I finish some old.

The improv piece will sort itself out when you turn one block (or two) just one turn to the left or the right I’m sure. Molly is definitely her mother’s daughter when it comes to being creative! Bet you are going to miss her tremendously when she moves out again. The fox is sweet and those glass flowers; beautiful. Thanks for the reminder of PQ this weekend.

That’s a lot of to-dos! I love Molly’s cross stitch! Beautiful! And those glass flowers are amazing!!!

Glad you took time off to nap in the sun — a well deserved reward for all the cleaning and clearing you’ve done! Please tell Molly I am very impressed with her cross stitch. And I am still in love with your latest improv piece.

  • Cheree Hull

Yay for cleaning and wow, those glass flowers are awesome! What a fun thing to try out!
I’m still a little slow-going around here, too. What is it about this year???

  • Kathy Swallows

You checked off a couple from the to do list and made progress on the other as well as did some reorganization. Sounds like a very productive week. Love your daughter’s counted cross stitch. It’s nice when they take up a hobby that allows them to happily hang out with you in the sewing room. Good luck with your plans for this week.
