To Do Tuesday
I’m here with my To Do Tuesday post, linking up with Texas Quilt Gal for her To Do Tuesday weekly linky party. We share goals or tasks we’d like to work on or finish for the week, then check back the next week to see how we’ve done. If that interests you, join us! We have fun encouraging each other, and Linda is a great host!
Well, I’d like to say that I have lots of finishes to show you this week. I do have one, actually, but that will be for tomorrow’s post. I finished my Quilt Improv Studio challenge quilt, so I hope you stop back tomorrow and take a peek.
BigJ and I decided to take a quick road trip at the end of the week. On Friday, we drove to Lincoln, NE to visit the International Quilt Museum on Saturday morning. Saturday was International Quilting Day, so I timed that pretty well, huh? No, it wasn’t planned – I had forgotten (gasp) all about that until I got there Saturday morning. I wanted to see the Modern to Modern exhibit before it was gone.
It was a treat to see Kim Soper’s Lincoln quilt. You can read about the construction of the quilt here.
One of the other quilts that caught my eye was this one.
Note that it says “Maker Unidentified”. How sad that the maker cannot be given the credit due for this beautiful work. It reminds me that I need to label my quilts! The blocks were maybe 10″ finished, and the quilt was tied. Here’s a close up so you can see the block a bit better.
There were several other quilts, but I thought it would be fun to share these two. I also thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit, “Capturing the Moment: Works by Terrie Mangat”. Her quilts are vibrant and lively, and a delight to the eye.
The museum doesn’t take much time to go through, but I always enjoy their exhibits. Since it was International Quilting Day, there were some workshops and vendors to visit, and we were able to get through the museum just as it was beginning to get busy.
This week, I have a light to do list:
- Finish H2H quilt
- Keep working on Wonderful World of Color Blog Hop project
- Visit a new (to me) quilt shop!
So I have a short To Do Tuesday list this week. What about you – what are you working on?

Ooo, I’d love to see Kim Sipper’s Lincoln quilt! The pineapple quilt is a beauty too. Looks like it was a worthwhile trip. I’m looking forward to our adventure!

Visiting a new quilt shop sounds like fun! Enjoy! I loved the quilts you shared in this post. They are both incredible.

How sad that the maker is unknown, I confess that the first quilts I made do not have labels.

I have always planned to go to that museum and have never gotten around to it – are there any quilt shops around also? I label some of my quilts but not all of them I guess I am not real concerned of it.

Ooooh, lucky you getting to the museum. I’m hoping to get there later on this summer or fall. The Lincoln quilt is amazing.

Sounds like a fun trip! I loved the Lincoln quilt – had to go read all about it, and send a link to all my local quilty friends, too. Looking forward to seeing your finished improv quilt tomorrow!

I love the Lincoln quilt! That is amazing. I like the pineapple quilt too. It sounds like you had a fun day. I did spend some time in my sewing room that day. Hugs,

I love Kim’s Lincoln quilt – it is very impressive each time I see it (well pictures of it!)
I was wondering how your time at the museum was – glad you posted about it. Is it usually very crowded?
I don’t often label my quilts – though they are just utility quilts and well used – I don’t think they will end up in a museum!
Have a great week Wendy!!
Laura
Great choices to share…both are wonderful quilts! They show that both modern and traditional have their value! Love! 🙂

Congratulations on making that trip to the museum. Some of the best things are spontaneous and the surprise that it was National Quilting Day must have made it extra special. It’s nice when the exhibits are not too big and you can savor each quilt shown.

I am wondering where the new quilt shop is? Glad you had a little get away.

Kim’s Lincoln quilt is so stunning in person, I’m so glad you had the opportunity to go see it and others this weekend (and leave before the museum got too busy). Sounds like a really lovely trip!

I really want to visit the International Quilt Museum someday. How long of a drive was it for you?

Thanks for sharing the quilts! I like the idea of an easy-peasy To Do list! I’ll have to do that! 🙂

What a neat trip! I’ve opened the Lincoln link to read later. Now I’m headed look at your completed improv quilt.

So glad you visited the International Quilt Museum and thank you for sharing photographs of these two remarkable quilts. To visit that museum is on my bucket list!
