To Do Tuesday
I’m here with a To Do Tuesday post and linking up with Quilt Schmilt for Carol’s To Do Tuesday linky party.
It’s been awhile since I posted for To Do Tuesday, so let me catch you up a bit. In my last post, my to do list was to keep up with my Stay at Home Round Robin borders. You can see my progress on that in yesterday’s post. The other item on my to do list was my quilt for The Endeavourers group. You can see that quilt here.
While those projects have been in the works, I’ve also been working a bit behind the scenes on a couple of other quilt alongs.
Diatom Quilt Along
The Diatom Quilt Along is underway over at Quilting Jetgirl. Back in December I ordered fabric for the quilt along, but there was a mistake in the shipment, so I decided to shop my stash. This proved to be more difficult than I thought, but I kept at it and finally found something that would work. Most of the fabrics I am using are from my stash. I did have to add one more – actually two – that I plan to use. So while the requirements call for four fabrics, I have five. We’ll see if my plan works out. Yvonne has released three of the block patterns. I have completed the first two.
I’m using Moda Basic Grey Grunge fabrics in Smoke, Yam (rust), Moutarde (gold), Tan and Manilla. Manilla is just a bit lighter than the tan, and not in either of these blocks. The blocks are very easy to make and go together quickly. By the end of this week, I should be caught up.
100 Day Stitch Project
I’ve also joined in with Ann Wood for her 100 Day Stitch Project. Each day, for 100 days, you do 15 minutes of stitching on a 5″ x 7″ fabric page. This is a slow stitching project. There are no patterns, you just stitch what you want. We are working on our fourth page. Here’s my very random progress so far.
I started with the portrait, because at that time I thought maybe making portraits would be a fun idea. Then I changed my mind, so the blocks are just whatever I feel like sewing up. Blocks 2 and 3 are just from leftover pieces of quilts I’d been working on, and the moon with the geese and the tree is my current work in progress. This is something a bit new to me. It is a relaxing way to either start or end my sewing day.
Pattern Test
It was fun to sneak in the test of this cute little sea turtle quilt block. This block was designed and recently released by Sandra Healy Designs. Now I want to make a little baby quilt with this block pattern!
My to do list for this week is pretty simple:
- Block 3 of Diatom Quilt Along
- Next Border for SAHRR
- February Tuxedo’s Tales block
Thanks for stopping by and reading my To Do Tuesday post! I’m so glad you are here! What are you working on this week?

Hooray! Love both your slow stitch pieces and your star blocks. You are remarkable in the way you use stitch alongs to make your own unique work

Productive as ever, Wendy! Three very different projects but all of the blocks turned out fab!

I love your slow stitching pages, looks like a fun project.

The turtle is so sweet, I can see why you would want to make a baby quilt with them! And your colors for Diatom looks great-a wonderful fall quilt in the works perhaps. It will be fun watching you grow your 100 Day stitchin’ pages.

What a pretty variety of projects – looks like Wilbs is keeping you on track. Your stash has made some gorgeous Diatom blocks. Moutarde is one of my favorite Grunge “flavors”!

That turtle is adorable! And it would make a perfect baby quilt. Love the star blocks.

The colors you picked for Diatom are just gorgeous, Wendy! Looks like those first two blocks went together nicely, too. Your 100 day project pages are really fun, and so is the turtle! I should check out Sandra’s designs – the ones you’ve pattern tested have been so cute. I’m not doing much at the moment because I had my second cataract surgery yesterday, so my eye is still dilated. Hoping to get back to my projects in the next day or two!

Diatom looks great so far. It will be a lovely fall quilt. Kudos for doing most of it from stash too. But the turtle is darling. Yes, do make a baby quilt from the pattern.

You have been very busy and what better time than when winter has been so awful!! The 100 day project is quite interesting. How often do you start a new page? Your Diatom blocks are beautiful. I was going to start this, got sick, and never got back to choosing fabric. I should go back and get started because it is fun to have a project like that to work on. That little sea turtle is darling. You do a great job picking colors.
The Morning Latte
The colors you ended up with for Diatom are super. I can see the challenge in all the piecing for sure. Why is it called Diatom btw? I love your little fabric pages! How fun it must be to just let your mind….go! Of course, with your artistry, it always turns out great!

Catching up on Diatom right after this. Have a few more postage stamp circles for block 2, and then onto block 3. Love your turtle blocks and your 100 days of 5 x7s! That will keep you out of trouble. Nice to see “the tail”!
Karen
all of these are so great – you do such a good job on modern!
Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl
That baby turtle block is so cute! And oh your Diatom blocks look great. If there is anything I can do to help with your use of 5 fabrics, don’t hesitate to send me an email. 🙂

Wendy you have been so busy! i do like the fabrics you are using for Diatom. I was going to try to fit it in since I love Yvonne’s patterns, but common sense prevailed and I am continuing to try to not add any new projects to my list. I am intrigued by your 100 days of stitching project. It looks like fun and hand stitching is a soothing past time. Love your little Turtle block. Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday. 😉

I am participating in The Diatom quilt along, also. I am only done with the first block, plus halfway done with block #2 last night. I will get caught up. Your blocks look great! I love Grunge. I am using a stack of fat quarters that I had, so mine will be more scrappy.

I love your Diatom quilt blocks! Going to be a pretty quilt!

Your Diatom blocks look great. I didn’t realize you were playing along with Yvonne’s quilt along. It’s been one of my favorites so far. I need to get going on block three this week. Love the turtle, so very cute. Hopefully you’ve gotten mostly check marks on your list today.
Quilting is in my Blood
I’m way behind commenting on blog posts. And the keyboard for my iPad is going nuts so I’ll just say that I love your Diatom blocks. It’s a project I can’t fit it right now, but yours are super cool.
