Tomte Mini Quilt Finish
I have a Tomte mini quilt finish to show you today. Since it’s been a little more than a week of Christmas blog hops, I’ve been having fun getting some Christmas projects completed.
I had so much fun making this little tomte scene last year. The designs are foundation paper pieced. They are available from Moss & Lotus in their Etsy shop. When I made the blocks last November, there was a fun Instagram sew along and it was so much fun to see all the creativity that went into each person’s blocks!
This quilt is a little nod to my mom and her love of anything Scandinavian. She was Swedish, and each year at Christmas, she would bring out all of her Swedish decor. The little gnomes or tomte, were some of her favorites.
The little mini is 6″ x 18″. The backing is a plain white fabric, and of course I had to find yet one more excuse to use that candy cane stripe binding. It was just what this little mini needed!
I had some fun with the quilting, too.
Just couldn’t let that beard go without some waves!
That wraps up my Christmas quilting for now, but I still have a couple of holiday items in my UFO stack, so we’ll see if I get them done before December!
This weekend I’ll be catching up on my Moda Blockheads blocks. I’ll show them to you on Monday. Until then, have a great weekend, everyone!

I love the little Tomte blocks. I made a mini mini last fall to give as a secret Santa to a girl at work who has a Swedesh mother also. They were fun to make. Your mini quilt turned out great and I love the quilting in the beard.

Cute, Wendy! My Mom always says she wishes she was Swedish! And she has all the Swedish decorations. You did a great job on the quilting. Love how it looks like it’s snowing. And there’s that candy cane binding again. Just wonderful.

I love these wonderful Tomte blocks. Your quilting is perfect and I especially like the detail in the beard – simple yet effective for a tiny piece. Looking forward to seeing your blockheads, too.

This is just adorable. So small and sweet – might be my favorite of your holiday projects shared lately. Also, what quilt is is laying on for the photo? That quilting is great – the rectangular pattern?
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Bernie! It’s laying on my bedspread, one I purchased while I ponder what quilt to make for our bed! 😂

Hi Wendy! What a great wrap up for the Christmas in July time. I love the whole scene but especially the Santa – is that the Tomte? I love how you quilted his beard – that just makes him so special! Of course I love the candy cane binding – that’s just perfect! Nice job and nice memories of your Mom! Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne
