Tuesday Tales
Hi everyone! I thought I’d share some Tuesday tales with you and catch you up on how I am doing. I have been resting quite a bit, but have also been able to be up and doing some things. I’ve even done some sewing, but more about that in a minute. My energy level is still working it’s way back, so I sew a bit, then nap a bit. The naps are getting fewer, so that makes me happy. My body is definitely still healing, but I don’t have much pain. I can just tell that my core muscles aren’t what they used to be and will take some time to catch up.
As I’m writing this, I’m sitting in the dark with candles glowing, along with solar lights. Just down the road, a tree fell on a power line and knocked out our power. We’ve been out since 8 pm; it’s now 10:30. Supposedly it will come on again around 11 or so. I might be in bed by that time, or I might still be writing this post!
Remember this stack of books I brought home from the book fair? I’ve read all of them with the exception of The Bonesetter’s Daughter. It just wasn’t grabbing me, so I’ll set that aside for awhile. I think I had just read too much and needed a break. Of the others, I enjoyed all of them except Leafy Rivers by Jessamyn West. It was the first one I read post-surgery, so perhaps that has something to do with it. I just thought it was a strange book, and really, I bought the book because the dust cover has a cool design. Ha! Maybe I’ll do a review post of the other books, if you are interested.
Prior to surgery, I needed something to keep my mind off things, so I pulled out these Kaffe polka dots and started a new quilt using a new pattern, Happy Stripes, by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. I have no time deadline for this quilt, so I can work on it when I feel like it. I have three rows sewn together already. It’s a very quick pattern that works well with jelly rolls, scraps, fat quarters and yardage. I think it will be a good one to have on hand for quick makes.
Remember this little medley of fabrics I was playing with? That purple feather fabric is a challenge fabric from one of our local quilt shops. It’s a one yard piece, and I need to use the entire yard in my project. The project can be anything – a quilt, apron, bag, whatever – the only stipulation is that the entire yard has to be used. It’s due June 1st. I initially planned to make a quilt with those fabrics, but I ended up only using the purple feather fabric and the green polka dot fabric for my project. Part of it is done; the rest needs to be finished today. We’ll see if I can make it happen.
Meanwhile, things are blooming around our house. I planted the Bleeding Heart last season, so it was fun to see it blooming this year. My tiny little patch of Lily of the Valley made an appearance this year, and our lilacs are slowing bursting open. We did manage to get some other planting done, so we are ready for summer now.
Since this is my first post-surgery To Do Tuesday post, and I’m linking up with Texas Quilt Gal for the weekly link up, I’d better share what I have on task for this week:
- Finish Challenge Project
- Plan Endeavourers Challenge quilt
- Finish Test Quilt
- Nap when I need it
I hope you enjoyed my Tuesday Tales. As you can see Wilbs has been an excellent therapy cat, keeping a very close eye (and tail) on me.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my post!

It’s lovely to ‘hear’ your voice again Wendy. So glad you are pacing yourself through your recovery.
Those Fassett polka dots are absolutely delicious. I am also looking forward to seeing what you have done with that feather fabric.

So glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better, Wendy. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with the feather fabric. Hope your energy continues to improve and in the meantime, enjoy the rest as much as you can!

Thrilled to see your post in my inbox this morning! Love that your getting back on track, and getting some sewing therapy was needed too I am sure! Glad you know your limitation and letting your body heal.

Oh that glorious tail! I’m sooooo glad you are on the mend. Napping is the best when you are healing, but I understand the happiness you feel when the need diminishes. Good luck with the project finish today, I like the focus fabric with the polka dot green,
Thank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday!

So happy to hear you are improving and healing. It really takes time to get back to 100% but I’m sure you will! It seems you are handling it well, just doing what you feel and then stopping for a while! Have a great week. I hope you finish your project!

it does take time to heal and get your energy back I heard Minnesota had a bad storm and sounds like at least part of it got you – hope you were not without power all night.
Linda
So happy to hear you’re recovering.
Keep a watch on your “tiny little patch” of Lily of the Valley. I had one lonely plant in my garden three seasons ago. It has now taken over a 2×10 foot border of Tiger Lillies and choked them out. I have a two foot area left with sparse Tiger Lilly plants surrounded by ‘Those sweet littlle LOV’s’
They are very aggressive. Almost impossible to clear them out.

Glad you’re continuing to improve. I love those Kaffe polka dots. I think I had a fat quarter bundle of those a while back. I’ve used some, and I probably still have some. That feather fabric is cute!

Hi Wendy! Oh, those blooms are lovely. I am a huge fan of all three plants but especially the bleeding heart! How wonderful that you are feeling up to sewing again. Happy Strings is a really cute quilt that would be lovely in many different prints. Thanks for sharing the link – I just might need to buy that pattern myself. Have a fabulous week and good luck with your list and project due tomorrow. {{Hugs}} a bunch! ~smile~ Roseanne

So good to hear how you’re doing, Wendy! It sounds like you’re doing really well, especially if you have energy to sew again. Those dots are going to make a fun quilt – love the stripes pattern! I’ll enjoy seeing what you’re making with the challenge fabric. Hope your power came back on!
Needle and Foot
We have something similar to Bleeding Hearts that grows wild here. The blooms are not as bold or big but it is a cute little version that seems to spread like crazy in the shade of the trees.
Love any sort of book recommendations so I am up for that – or just tell me which of them was your fav and I will grab it!
A challenge by tomorrow??? Hmmm, only if you feel up to it – or if it is almost done! Sounds like it might be too much.
Love the polka dots. Anything with polka dots just makes me happy!

Have really missed you and was hoping your recovery was going well. Good that you had some reading material. I’m sure that Wilbs helped you nap. Love those fabrics. The dots are so bright. And the feather is great. I’m glad you are pacing yourself. Take good care.

now that was fun, seeing what you and wilbur are doing to fill the days. Sorry about your power… I freak out without it, but then I just may be more neurotic than most!
Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl
I am glad that Wilbs has been keeping such a close, keen eye on you. Our bodies sure do know how we need naps and rest to recover, don’t they? I hope you continue to feel better and stronger each day. Good luck with your goals and I hope you can finish your challenge project today. I suppose that the fact this posted means that your power came back on?

Always love other people‘s book recommendations, though I just opened two emails with two books I’ve been waiting for for months and of course two come in at the same time, and I’m reading an 850-pager… At least they let you suspend your hold and not lose your place in line, and I can let the next person have it. Glad to hear you’re getting better and better and even sewing! Wilbs has a lot to do with it I bet. Ahh spring flowers are just a balm for our soul.

Wishes for continued recovery!! Love that feather fabric.

Glad you are doing better each day. The body has its own timeline…we just follow along. Love the Kaffe dots and am curious to see what you come up with for your challegne! Hooray for nurse kitties that keep one company while healing!

🤣🤣🤣 Loved the cat tail dusting the sewing machine. Welcome back. Hope your energy gets back to your previous levels. I enjoy seeing what others are reading. I find it interesting that some books just don’t engage me — but wait a week or two and I’m all into them. Except for the ones I never engage with. I hope you get your challenge piece done in time.
Carol Andrews
Hi Wendy. How great it is to know you are mending, sewing and enjoying books, your yards and time with Wilbs. I love the bright, happy fabrics you are playing with. 😉
The Morning Latte
Haven’t we all been guilty of judging a book by its cover? That’s sweet of Wilbs to keep you company! When I was down, I really think Chloe knew it and spent almost all of her time keeping an eye on me. Love the polka dot fabrics and keep us posted on the challenge results!
Sandy Panagos
The Happy Stripes pattern is perfect for the Kaffe polka dots! Glad you’re feeling a little better. Don’t rush things. (I bet you already know that!) “The Island of Sea Women” was really good, wasn’t it?
