Two Finish Friday
It’s a Two Friday Finish at Pieceful Thoughts today. Both of my finishes have been done for a little while, I just haven’t posted them.
The first finish I’ll show you is a little mini runner. Recently, The Constant Quilter put out a call for orphan blocks. She is making a Community Supper Pot Holder quilt. You can see my orphan block and what she did with it in this post.
I was completely surprised when Wendy thanked me by sending me a little stack of fabric squares. I knew exactly what I would do with them. I trimmed them to 3 inches, then sewed pairs of them together, stitching a seam on each side.
I paired a light square with a dark. Once I had them sewn, I cut them in half at 1-1/2 inches and pressed them open. Then I pieced them into a little top, about 13 x 23 inches.
Some quick quilting, straight lines right along the seams, binding, and done!
It was a quick, fun project. I packed it up and sent it to my sister-in-law in a little care package, just for fun.
I believe I’ve shown this pillow before, but thought I’d show you a few close up photos of the quilting. This pillow is a practice block from my online class, MidCentury Modern Curves, with Carole Lyles Shaw. Carole has several online classes available, and you can see them all here. You can also go to this post for more links to Carole’s site.
I had some fun with the quilting, doing some curved quilting along with lines. I used Aurifil 50 wt thread in turquoise and orange.
I enjoyed this project very much. I loved the fabrics – Kona Pickle, Grunge Dynasty, the red/orange print is a Malka Dubrawsky print, and the letter fabric is, I believe, an Andover fabrics print. I haven’t been able to locate any more of it, unfortunately.
Two Finish Friday is a great way to end the week, so I’m linking up with:
Happy Friday, all! Have a safe and happy 4th, my American friends!

Your two finishes are both charming and cheerful — especially the cushion. Your sister in law must have been very pleased when she opened her package. Thanks for sharing the clever method for the table runner and I also enjoyed the close up of your very neat machine quilting. Have a happy, stitching weekend

Congrats! I haven’t even got one finish and yours both look great. I especially like the way you’ve used a print for the alternate blocks in the runner. It makes it so fresh and cheerful 🙂

I love the runner, an easy make yet the results are beautiful!

Great finishes Wendy! That little runner is too cute!
Vicki in MN
I like your finishes, I am glad you brought them out of hiding!! Hmmm you might have given me an idea for a quilt or two using charm packs instead of three inch squares. Both projects are great finishes.
Riceford Streams
Two fun finishes! I just stitched a pile of squares and cut them like you did — best method ever! I’m making a runner for my mom with Mackinac Island charms from you. Enjoy the weekend! Any plans to see M?

Your “sister in law” IS very proud and appreciative of her little runner!!! She has a SUPER talented and very loved sister in law!!! Again, thank you for the day brightner!!!! ❤️

I love what you did with the squares – turning them into rectangles and making them into that sweet runner! I bet your sister-in-law loves it! The Constant Quilter is a new blog for me – I hadn’t followed her before. It was fun to look at all her posts about the potholder blocks. What is she going to do with them? The quilting on your curves pillow looks great! I like how you used two different thread colors – I’ll have to remember that.

very neat quilting – I love that pillow – it would look perfect on my couch 🙂

Cute projects. I love the thread colors on the pillow.
Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl
What a kind gesture to be sent some squares as a thank you. The table runner came together beautifully and I bet your sister-in-law was surprised by your kind gesture. Curved quilting fits the improv curve piecing for the pillow wonderfully, too. Congratulations on having 2 finishes to celebrate this week!

Smart piecing in that table runner–love the fabrics!
Needle and Foot
What a great way to create rectangles. You’re a genius! Bet your SIL loved receiving the gift.
I don’t think I am familiar with Constant Quilter so I will pop over and get to know her a bit. 🙂

Wendy is going to be so pleased with your table runner, I love it. Lucky sister. You and I are so destined to share our stash at the retirement hotel😉. Go Pickle!
Rochelle Summers
How fun! You didn’t let dust gather on that little stash of fabric! The runner turned out so beautiful and your sister-in-law must love it. The pillow is lovely. While you say pickle about that yellow fabric, is it a bit more green in real life?
Kathleen McCormick
I love your finishes – so different yet so great as individual pieces. Maybe a little of fun inbetween sewing was just the ticket…time with Big J, followed by a burst of sewing. If it didn’t go this way, don’t tell me. Happy 4th!

Congratulations on your finishes!! I really like the table runner! 🙂

Hi Wendy! Two fabulous finishes. I really love your pillow but the table runner is awesome. LOVE them both. I wondered where you were going with the 3″ blocks sewn on both sides. HAHA! ~smile~ Roseanne
Louise Hornor
I love the quilting on the pillow! I can tell you had a great time choosing just the right matching color threads. And the bonus table topper is sweet. What a loving gift 🙂

What a great pillow! I’m off to check out those classes now; you’ve inspired me. As for the runner… sometimes simple is best, and this little darling is charming. Great projects to get us all inspired.
Leanne Parsons
The piecing technique you used for the runner is intriguing…I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why you sewed both sides of the squares together, lol. Both the runner and the pillow are beautiful. So totally different, but I love them both 🙂 Thanks for linking to TGIFF this week.
Linda
Love everything about that little runner! That pillow colors is gorgeous; I love the names of the fabrics as much as the colors.
Nancy Bekedam
A double finish–super fun, Wendy! Nice gift for your SIL! And your improv pillow is really the bomb! Love the 2 color quilting threads.
Sandra Walker
Great contrast in your double-finish! I love seeing the improv pillow all done; such a Wendy piece!
Wendy C. Reed
What a fabulous way to use those little squares! I adore it. Thanks for joining in the “mini merriment”! I have linked you into the mini post. I love your pillow too. Fun!
