Two Tiny Turtles
Two tiny turtles turned up in my quilt room this weekend, to add to my Awesome Ocean blocks for the Awesome Ocean SAL with Kathleen McMusing.
Kathleen’s guest host for the turtle block was Emily of The Darling Dogwood, and she shared some good tips for constructing these little blocks. Emily is making the full-size quilt, so be sure to stop over and see her work.
I’m making the baby size quilt and all of my blocks are being made with batiks in my stash. I thought finding green batiks in my stash would be a simple thing, only to find out that I had just a few. I made it work though. Working together, the turtles and I finally made it to the ocean of other blocks.
They look a bit like twins, don’t they? The one on the right looks like his bottom left leg is wrong; it isn’t, the batik square in his shell just seems to match the leg rather well in the photo!
These were two fun and quick blocks to make. The trickiest part was paying attention when sewing the leg sections together. The turtles join the rest of the ocean gang, which you can see here.
I’ll be sharing a guest post for the Awesome Ocean SAL on Saturday, February 29th, when I’ll introduce you to Mr. Manatee, and give you a few of my tips for putting these blocks together. I hope you stop in to meet him!
Are you sewing along with Awesome Ocean? How is it going?
I’ll be linking up my two tiny turtles with the linky party at Kathleen McMusing.

Love the green turtles!
Quilting is in my Blood
These guys are adorable, and the green batiks you used are perfect for their shells. Looking forward to reading your blog hosting post next weekend. Take care, Mary.

Aren’t those little guys cute?! I like how we’re seeing them from the top, as if they are swimming!

How fun would it be to swim with these cuties!

Love these adorable turtles! What will you make with them or do they join other ocean squares?
As for the “awesome ocean” I agree! We just got to spend a week on the gulf enjoying all the sunshine, wildlife and shelling. Instead of deer crossing signs there are “tortoise crossings”” and “don’t feed the alligators” signs! We especially enjoy watching the pelicans!

These are adorable! I’m looking forward to seeing this quilt when it’s finished 🙂

I love these guys. I, too, thought I had more green but didn’t – until a week later when it turned up. I love the effect of the shell & the leg. We often get unexpected results – its like the fabric is in control!

Hi Wendy! Your sea turtles are so darn cute. That is amazing how the fabric ended up exactly matching his leg – you couldn’t do that if you tried. ~smile~ Roseanne

I am so anxious to see how all these pairs of sea creatures come together!

Sweet twin turtles, Wendy!

The batik is absolutely perfect for those lil guys!! And the way it worked out with the leg, so cool! To me, it doesn’t look like a mess up, but a happy accident that makes the piece even more special.

It took a little while to get what you meant by his leg, but it’s fine, it won’t be noticeable when you look at the quilt at a whole, and as you say, it’s right. Lovely turtles.
