Very Little Progress

I have very little progress to show you today. I missed posting last week, so I’m popping in today to join up with Texas Quilt Gal for her To Do Tuesday linky party.

Here’s my to do list from my last post:

  • Finish Challenge Project Done!
  • Plan Endeavourers Challenge quilt Progress!
  • Finish Test Quilt Nope!
  • Nap when I need it Probably more than I needed LOL!

I really don’t have much to show you today, except for my challenge pieces I submitted to a local quilt shop for their 1-yard challenge. We were given a yard of fabric and had to use the entire yard. While I had planned to whip up a quilt, I ended up making some bags and a fun little toy.

The main bag I made is a favorite of mine. It’s my go-to shopping bag pattern, and I’ve made several. It’s the Stand & Stow pattern by Atkinson Designs (no affiliation). The bag can be made in three sizes. I make the medium size, and it is very generous. I often get comments on the bags when I am grocery shopping or doing a Target run.

I like the bag because it stands up on its own (thanks to Pellon 71F), it is deep and wide, and it folds up! I can pack a lot of groceries in one bag, and never worry about it breaking. If something spills, I toss it in the wash and it’s good to go once again!

While that bag used up most of my challenge fabric – the purple feather print – I still had some leftover. So I decided to make a mesh bag, using a pattern from Crafty Gemini (no affiliation) that I found on YouTube, It was a quick, easy make. This bag will work well for those trips to Farmer’s Market, veggies or fruit at the grocery store, or for toys and shoes after a day at the sandy beach.

While the bag looks small in this photo, it’s actually approximately 12″ x 18″. The inside seams are finished, which was easy to do.

But . . . I still had fabric left! What to do? I had just enough to make a fun little fish toy for Wilbs, using a pattern from Sotak Handmade’s book, That Handmade Touch. I whipped it up, stuffed it, adding some catnip and a little crinkly paper. I hope he likes it!

I didn’t win the challenge, but at least I met the challenge after having surgery. I was pleased about that.

This week, I’m keeping my list short and sweet, since I’ll be gone on a couple of road trips.

Okay, I suppose that looks like more than very little progress, but those items were finished before the week started. Last week was a pretty quiet week!

What about you? What are you working on this week?

Love your catnip toy. Sounds like you were very busy. I had a finish this week, posting tomorrow on Scrap Happy Day. Mostly this week I will be sorting out papers for Mr Tax Man.

  • Tracie

You used your fabric wisely! I bought that bag pattern per your recommendation and still need to get at it. It’s so perfect! Enjoy your road trips 🙂 We leave today with my nephew for his trap shooting tournament. With this heat, there will be ice cream.

Looks like you had a very productive week to me! I’m impressed you got so much done with that yard of fabric and especially during your recovery time. I hope Wilbs likes his fish toy and does the “bunny kick” with it. 😀 Those bags are awesome! We have grocery bags but they don’t stand on their own. I just saved the pattern and will get the Pellon at our Joann’s.
Thank you for sharing with To Do Tuesday!

You’ll be the talk of the grocery store with that fun feather print bag! Has Wilbs played with his new toy yet? Have fun on your upcoming trips.

Hi Wendy! That bag looks so very handy. Both of them, actually. The aspect that it stands open on its own is a really important one for me. How often do you not have the hands to hold a bag open and guide the contents in?!! Super job. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Purple & green… best combination ever! I’m a huge fan of reusable grocery bags! Just doing my part to save the world one plastic tree at a time!

Your bags are great, Wendy! I especially like the mesh bag – a good way to use a few less plastic bags in the produce department. A nap is always on my to-do list, and I’m not even healing from surgery. 😘 I bet Wilbur would agree with that, too!

Congratulations on finishing the challenge (even if you didn’t win)! I love the stand-up bag – that looks terrific!
Keep napping and recovering from your surgery! 🙂

Wendy you did meet the challenge in a really inventive way! Making the bags was great but Wilbs toy was the icing on the cake. 😉. Good to see you are feeling a little better and getting around and sewing. 😄

What??? Am I supposed to post every week. Insert exploding head emoji here.
Fabulous Bag. I remember the flimsy bags I made before I discovered interfacing. That was a revelation!!!
Most importantly, did Wilbur like his new toy? Eager to know. Hope you have a great rest of the week and an awesome weekend!

  • The Joyful Quilter

Meeting the challenge WAS the important part (even though winning would have been a sweet bonus!) SEW glad that your priority was on recovering from your surgery!! You made some really wonderful items with that single yard of fabric, Wendy.

What wonderful things you made from that yard. I love the look of that Atkinson bag, and the Crafty Gemini one, too. They are both so practical. And then, there is the fish – purr-fect for lovely Wilbur. Good luck with your week’s plan!
