Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop
Welcome to my day for the Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop! I’m so glad you’ve stopped by. This fun event is hosted each year by creative quilter Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. This is one of my favorite Hops – quilts and cookies? I’m in!
That tells you a little about me, but let me introduce myself for those of you who might be new to my blog. I’m Wendy, and I live in a cozy little home in Minnesota with my husband and my cat, Wilbs. My days are filled with making quilts, reading books, and snuggles with Wilbs. He makes a regular appearance in my posts, but today he is choosing to snooze while we chat. So welcome to my little corner of the world – I’m glad you’re here!
I used to collect snowmen, and my mom would give me one each year. It’s been a few years since she passed away, and my collecting seems to have shifted now to gnomes. I’m not sure how that happened exactly, but the holiday season can’t go by without a gnome creation makes its appearance.
My SIL is one of my biggest gnome-enablers and she gave me this cute little gnome kit last Christmas, I think? I’m not sure because I’m a bit behind on my quilt kits. Anyway, this year was his year!
This pattern is Gnoel from Hunter’s Design Studio and is available here. The finished size of this runner is 7″ x 36″. There is another option in the pattern, dropping the “G” so it just says Noel. I decided that would be Gno fun. Heehee.
His hat looping over the “L” makes me grin, and adds whimsy to the little quilt. And who can resist that pink nose?
For the beard, I used a scrap of white batting to give it a little fluff. The applique is raw-edged without any finishing other than the quilting. The quilting went quickly, a simple crosshatch. I forgot to take a photo of the back, but I added some corner tabs for hanging. Gnoel was gifted to my other SIL for her birthday at the end of November, so I hope she enjoys Gnoel this holiday season!
Of course, it can’t be a cookie exchange without cookies, right? I thought it would be fun to take you back to my very first post for this Hop, back in 2018. The cookies I share there, Mint Snowballs, are still my favorites. Plus, you can see a few of my other gnome quilts I’ve made over the years. You can find the cookies and the gnomes here.
Okay, I’m going to give you a moment to go grab a refill on your coffee or tea, and maybe snag a cookie or two (for breakfast?! I won’t tell), then you’ll want to settle in and visit the other bloggers who are posting today:

LOVE this gnome runner, so, so cute! I’m glad you kept the “G”, and my favorite part is the pointy hat over the “L”. I’m headed to your 2018 post to snag the cookie recipe.

Wendy, your Gnoel Gnome is adorable! He will make a great gift, too. I went back to your older post and loved all the Moss and Lotus gnomes – I made some of those, too, back when they had their SAL. They were fun! The mint snowballs sound yummy!

That is too cute. Sam Hunter is the one we’re waiting on to reveal the “different interpretations of language” group quilt. It was supposed to be revealed in November, but we’re still waiting. Something about QuiltCon, but I think the participants have been announced now, so maybe it will happen soon. Anyway…all of that to say she lives nearby.

I love the whimsy of the Gnoel pattern! I bet your sister-in-law will be delighted every time she sees your generous gift hanging this season. 🙂

I love the Gnoel pattern! I have been collecting and making gnomes also the past few years. I can’t get enough. Thanks so much for sharing!

Isn’t that a fun wall hanging! I love Gnoel and would have kept the G too. I adore the way the cap hooks on the L. Its interesting that you made a little switch from santas to gnomes, but they are very similar. Love the cookie recipe and was shocked I hadn’t saved it from when you posted before.
Susan
So cute, Wendy! I would never take the G off!

Such a lovely memory of your mom and your collection of snowmen, Wendy. I am sure they bring back fond memories. How fun that you have started a new collection. Gnomes are just adorable and your quilt is as precious as can be. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Wendy Gnoel is definitely a winner in the whimsical Gnomies Contest! He’s so cute with his hat being the hanging hook! Now I’m off to check out that recipe. I’m sure it’ll be a keeper 😉

Aww, that is the sweetest runner/wall hanging. I love that it’s Gnoel! Thanks for sharing that recipe again. I really meant to try it the first time, not I really need to give it a try.
Daryl
Wendy, what a darling gnome quilt! I just made my friend a gnome bee for her birthday in November (it’s on my blog about 2 posts back) and made it into a project bag for her. We both love gnomes too! I like the “Gnoel” spelling too on yours.
Charlene McCain
Love your gnome runner. He is too cute for words! The cookies look delicious!
Sandra Walker
Yes, that hat (or toque as we would call it) tail hanging over the L is adorable. How great that your SIL gave you the kit and you made it and then give it to your other SIL! Mint snowballs are some of my favourites too, but I haven’t made them for several years… might have to remedy that as they’re one of Dayna’s favourites.

What a cute gnome table runner! The quilting is awesome. I love your term “gnome-enabler”. I love mint cookies- thank you for that recipe also.
Leah
Your Gnome runner is super cute! I too like the way his hat loops over the L.

The little gnome hanging is so cute and happy. I think that gives me an idea for some people next Christmas! (Can never start too early right??). The mint snowballs sound yummy. We’re making cookies soon with the grands—maybe we’ll try that one too?
